Man killed in early morning crash in north Raleigh

Authorities closed a portion of North New Hope near Capital Boulevard early Friday after a vehicle crashed into a tree.

— One man was killed early Friday in a wreck that forced authorities to close a portion of North New Hope Road near Capital Boulevard, Raleigh police said.

A Mitsubishi SUV driven by Christian Sanchez, 22, left the roadway shortly after 4:30 a.m. and struck a tree near Green Acres Lane, police said. Sanchez was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road reopened at about 8 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.

    It is not necessary to show the vehicle, the media never thinks of the family. How horrible.

    This is an intentional safety feature... the car crinkles so that the person is less likely to crinkle.

    What good would that do? An automobile "crinkles" as a result of absorbing the force of the collision. If this didn't occur then the force of the collision would be transferred entirely to the occupants, resulting in an increased chance of injury and death. Besides, automobiles are built with internal bracing.

    Better question- why can't people drive more safely?
