Fatal home invasion suspect charged with extorting inmate
A Halifax County man awaiting trial for his role in a fatal home invasion is accused of trying to force a fellow inmate to pay for bunk space.

In January, Deunta Squire, 22, and Timothy Arrington, 21, threatened to harm another inmate in the Halifax County jail if he didn't pay them for his bottom bunk in their cell block, said Detective Roy Rooks, with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office. He said the suspects assaulted the other inmate.
The victim, whose name wasn't released, had to be treated for injuries. He took out warrants for simple assault against Squire and Arrington.
The inmates were separated, and detectives began an investigation, Rooks said.
Squire and Arrington were charged last Tuesday with extortion. They were scheduled to appear in court April 11 on those charges.
Squire was behind bars awaiting trial on burglary and armed-robbery conspiracy charges in connection with a Dec. 22 home invasion in Littleton. Authorities say that several armed men burst into the home, and the resident fired back, killing a suspect, 20-year-old Ricardo Harley.
Arrington was sentenced to probation last April after being convicted of assault on a female, larceny and wanton injury to personal property, according to state Department of Correction records.
