Fatal Beltline wreck ruled a suicide

Posted June 25, 2008

— A wreck on an Interstate 440 Beltline exit ramp Tuesday afternoon was a suicide, police said Wednesday.

A 52-year-old woman, whose name wasn't released, died when her car overturned on the ramp leading from the outer loop of the Beltline to westbound Wade Avenue, police said.

An investigation determined the woman killed herself, police said.

The ramp was blocked for about an hour as police investigated the wreck, and traffic flow was limited through much of the afternoon rush hour.

Not enough info to this story. It's a sad fact of life anyone takes their own life. But how did she know she wouldn't take out someone else doing this on a major highway? Prayers with the family of this woman.

I heard on TWC NEWS14 today that she intentionally wrecked her vehicle to commit suicide. ---Once again, that is what TWC NEWS14 reported.

Suicide? That explains why there were so many police cars there, I guess. There were leo there that aren't usually at a typical wreck involving a fatality.

If you want to kill yourself that is one thing; however, you should not put the lives of others in jeopardy.

Very sad and tragic. My heart goes out to the families. That stretch of I-440/US.1/US.64(Raleigh Beltline) between the Wade Avenue exit near the State Fairgrounds has been a very dangerous place especially when the lanes goes from three to two lanes. I had seen a lot of dangerous accidents there cause the road is very narrow in parts especially with the traffic that goes through their everyday. Just be careful on that stretch of the beltline.

They may have all the information they need to conclude it was a suicide but are not making all they know public out of respect for the family. Really it is none of our business beyond the fact that there was a fatal accident on the beltline that held up traffic for awhile but now it is cleared so traffic is back to normal. And the rest of us not directly involved with the accident or family should go back to normal as well. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
