Oxy - I believe there is a trip to the NC state market in my near future after your post. Thanks for all the tips. :-)

Only one I've been to is the State Farmers Market, and I truly love that they're open year round. Goats milk cheese cake from Prodigal Farms (Oh Em Gee), Italian Sausage from Mae Farms (if it is humanly possible for a single bite of food to be life altering, this stuff is it), anything at all from Annalore's German Bakery (the really good stuff has names I can't remember or pronounce correctly). Over the past week or 2 the State Farmer's Market has really come back to life with most of the spots in the open air building now occupied. I spent Saturday oogling seedlings, sharing some spectacular German cake with my husband, making my way through the crowds, hunting down a daikon, praying Mae Farms had the sausages I wanted in stock and resisting the alluring perfume coming from the NC Seafood Restaurant.

I want to say the Clayton Farmers Market in downtown opens this Saturday this well in a new location (just a few blocks over), but please check before heading out, because I'm not 100% positive on the date.

I love love love Farmers Markets. I have to confess that there a few I really miss from other places I used to live -- specifically the incredible Union Square Market in NYC, and the markets in Silicon Valley, California. They were huge markets, and offered all kinds of stuff that I haven't seen since.

That being said, I spend quite a fair amount of time at the State market on Lake Wheeler. Lots of great things there too.
