Farm animals on display at N.C. State's Farm Animal Days

Baby chicks

I took my younger daughter to Farm Animal Days Wednesday morning and we had a great time checking out all of the animals including chicks, baby turkeys, a foal, calves, baby goats and lambs. They were adorable!

The free event is designed for field trips of preschoolers to first graders, but smaller groups and families are more than welcome. It's 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday and Friday. If you want to avoid the crowds, get there at 9 a.m. or 1 p.m.

It's muddy out there, so be prepared for that. And this is popular. So even at 9 a.m., we needed to wait in line to hold those little itty bitty chicks. But it was a fun hour, especially when it ended with some free Howling Cow ice cream!

It's at N.C. State's Beef Educational Unit, 4505 Mid Pines Rd., south of Raleigh off Lake Wheeler Road.
