Family Hike Favorites: Jordan Lake's Seaforth Pond Trail

As a naturalist and bird watcher, I have always appreciated Jordan Lake as one of North Carolina's best spots to see the bald eagle. As a parent, I am often reminded of the many things that kids find much more interesting than birds - such as toads, worms and dirt. To keep things interesting for the kids, we like to combine some trail hiking with some beach play.
Seaforth Recreation Area at Jordan Lake has something for everyone, including a swim beach, hiking trail with boardwalks and great views of Osprey nests. The Seaforth Pond Trail is an easy 1.25 mile loop that passes by 3 ponds and the Jordan Lake shoreline.
Listen for woodpeckers drumming, Wood Ducks whistling and cackling calls of Osprey. This trail is also a TRACK Trail, which means it has free kid-friendly trail brochures and kids can earn prizes – like a nature journal or bandana - by registering their hikes on the Kids In Parks website.
