Family dog rescued from Aberdeen fire

Firefighters responded to a home at 409 Seymore Street just before 3 p.m. and reported heavy smoke and flames visible from the single story home.

No residents were inside the home at the time of the fire, said the Aberdeen Times, but during a search, firefighters found and removed a dog from the house and immediately began treating the animal with oxygen.

The dog was transported to Pinetree Animal Hospital by Aberdeen Fire Chief Phillip Richardson for treatment.

Authorities told the Aberdeen Times that the home sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to two rooms and parts of the attic, where it burned through the ceiling, before extinguishing it. The entire home sustained smoke and water damage, authorities said.

Two adults and three children were displaced by the fire and were being assisted by the American Red Cross Wednesday evening.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Wednesday evening.
