Families are scrambling to make new plans for their children's birthday parties after PlayNation of Morrisville abruptly closed its doors.

The business on Dominion Drive mixed inflatables with wooden play structures, which they also sold. It was a popular destination for parties, other gatherings and drop-in play for little ones. It opened in November 2009.

Go Ask Mom readers tell me they had no warning that parties scheduled as soon as this week and weekend would be canceled. One reader tells me that one group stood outside of the business on Thursday morning for a scheduled party, only to find it shuttered. The business' Facebook page went down Wednesday evening, she tells me, and the website was no longer allowing customers to book parties.

Some readers with scheduled parties did receive an email Thursday afternoon that said only that the business was closed. The email, however, didn't mention why it was closing or whether they'd be getting their $100 deposits back. An email and voicemail to the business have gone unreturned.

"We are sorry to inform all of our customers due to unforeseen circumstances Playnation of Morrisville has closed. Thanks!," it reads.

Other readers with scheduled parties, including at least one this weekend, have heard nothing from the business. Some families with future parties had rescheduled them when icy winter weather closed the business temporarily last month. Another Go Ask Mom Facebook follower mentioned she had unused play passes left over from the business. (Full disclosure: My daughter was supposed to attend a friend's party there this weekend).

"My daughter's party was supposed to be there Sunday, but we didn't receive an email," wrote one mom on Go Ask Mom's Facebook page. "Thankful for the warm weather this weekend - we'll be outside instead!"

Update: Marbles Kids Museum tells me that they have availability this Sunday and next Sunday for families looking for other venues because of PlayNation's closure. If you're interested, contact LeeAnn Spaulding directly at lspaulding@marbleskidsmuseum.org or 919-857-1041.

Also, Pump It Up in Raleigh has party times open at 4:05 p.m. and 8:10 p.m., Saturday, and 9:05 a.m. and 7 p.m., Sunday.
