RALEIGH, N.C. — A handful of Raleigh homes were evacuated Tuesday morning after a construction crew hit a gas line causing a leak that shut down Falls of Neuse Road.

The leak started when the crew struck a four-inch plastic natural gas pipeline, according to gas utility officials. Four of five homes in the Quail Hollow subdivision were evacuated.

Repair crews had capped the leak, allowed residents back in their homes and re-opened the road to traffic by early afternoon.
