BENSON, N.C. — A woman was injured Friday morning after an Oak tree fell across Denning Road in Benson, which led to a crash and a tree limb flying through her car's windshield.

The woman, whose name was not released, was driving a Mercury Capri and stopped when she saw the tree in the road just after 5 a.m. She was not able to get around the tree, so she put on her flashers and got out of the car, troopers said.

A man driving a Jeep pulled up behind the woman. He hooked a chain to his Jeep and tried to pull the tree from the road, troopers said.

Meanwhile, a Nissan pickup truck driver coming the other direction did not see the tree and drove through the fallen debris, which sent a large limb through the windshield of the woman's Mercury Capri, according to authorities.

The limb also hit the woman, who was standing near her car. She was taken to WakeMed with minor injuries, troopers said.

After hitting the tree, the pickup truck driver crashed his vehicle into the Jeep. Neither he nor the Jeep's driver were injured.

Charges were pending, authorities said. No other information was released.
