RALEIGH, N.C. — Fairgoers donated 233,000 pounds of food Thursday, when a donation of five canned items earned free fair admission.

The haul was 10,000 pounds more than was donated last year, but it still fell short of the 250,000-pound goal set by the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC.
