Fair favorites: what not to miss this weekend

Posted October 25, 2013

Thousands of people came to the 2013 NC State Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, to experience the rides, to taste the fried foods, and to see the entertainment and animals (Photo by Wes Hight).

— The NC State Fair comes to a close this weekend, so we picked a few of our favorite fair moments and must-sees to check out before it's too late.

Deep fried brownie sundae at Chef D'Lites – The gooey, warm chocolate center and then ice cream on top. Decadent and big enough to share.

Barbecue sundae from Pik-n-Pig – This is more like a barbecue parfait with layers of barbecued pork, baked beans and coleslaw. So good, we want another one!

Sample some of the Amish fudge in the arts building (where NC State Howling Cow ice cream is) and some maple cotton candy in the education building.

Circle "C" Racing Pigs – This free show will bring a smile to everyone's face as cute little pigs, ducks and goats race around a track for a cheese puff.

K9s in Flight – Watch rescued and adopted dogs show off with high-flying acrobatics, Frisbee tricks and long jumps into a pool.

Music on the Church Lawn – Sit a spell outside the hustle and bustle of the fair while watching live music (in Heritage Circle, behind the Village of Yesteryear)

Village of Yesteryear – Watch artists create beautiful pieces, from pottery and basket-weaving to wood carving and painting. They are happy to answer any questions you may have.

What are you doing at the fair this weekend?
