Explosion, fire destroys vacant Fayetteville apartment building

Fayetteville, N.C. — Neighbors were rocked by an explosion just after midnight Saturday morning at Fayetteville's Southwood Apartments.
Firefighters said four units of a building at 6436 Applecross Avenue, all of them unoccupied, were destroyed by the explosion and subsequent fire.
By about 2:30 a.m., the fire was under control, but the cause had not been determined. No injuries were reported.
