Ex-Zebulon Cop Alleges Illegal Police Wiretap

Zebulon, N.C. — A former sergeant with the Zebulon Police Department has filed suit against the town, the police department and various local officials, alleging he was fired two years ago after being illegally wiretapped.
Darryl Wright said he was fired in July 2005 after 12 years with the Zebulon Police Department. Before he was fired, his patrol car was wired to intercept his conversations, the suit alleges.
The alleged wiretap was never approved by a court, making it illegal, according to the lawsuit.
Wright is seeking unspecified damages in the suit and also wants Police Chief Tim Hayworth and other officers fired for their roles in the alleged wiretapping.
