RALEIGH, N.C. — A former Wakefield High School softball coach was indicted Monday on 11 counts of sexual activity with a student.

Jamie Lloyd Ayers, 42, of 321 Yellow Poplar Ave., Wake Forest, was arrested May 20 on three counts of the charge after an 18-year-old reported to police that she and Ayers had a sexual relationship for several years.

Indictments indicate the woman was underage and a student at Wakefield High in 2011 and 2012 when the alleged sexual acts occurred at Ayer's home, in his car and several other places, including a softball shed at the high school.

A spokeswoman for the Wake County Public School System said Ayers resigned from the school system on June 13.

He worked for Wake schools since 1998, where he also worked at East Cary Middle School, Cary High School and Wakefield Middle School.

In addition to coaching, he taught health and physical education at Wakefield High.
