RALEIGH, N.C. — A former Craven County school teacher was one of two men sentenced Wednesday to federal prison on child pornography charges, authorities said Thursday.

Matthew Metcalf, 41, of New Bern, pleaded guilty in April to producing child pornography over the Internet. He was sentenced to 17½ years in prison.

Separate investigations led the FBI and the State Bureau of Investigation to Metcalf, a former elementary school teacher in Craven County, last year, authorities said.

The SBI’s lead was based on information sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which had learned that someone using the Internet moniker “14yoVideoMaster” had uploaded images of apparent child pornography to YouTube.

Meanwhile, the FBI found a child in another state who had created and uploaded videos depicting himself engaged in sexually explicit conduct, authorities said. The juvenile told investigators that he did so at the behest of a 14-year-old boy named “Cody” who used the “14yoVideoMaster” ID.

A search of Metcalf's home last year turned up a computer linked to the "14yoVideoMaster" ID, and Metcalf told investigators that he encouraging children to produce sexual images of themselves online and had amassed a significant collection of child pornography.

Also Wednesday, Billy Charles Burgess, 66, of Raleigh, was sentenced to 21½ years in prison and fined $25,000. He pleaded guilty in January to receiving child pornography.

Because of a 2000 federal conviction in Florida involving child pornography, Burgess received a harsher sentence, authorities said.

Burgess sent three photos over the Internet of prepubescent girls engaged in sexual acts to a law enforcement officer posing as the mother of a juvenile that he anticipated meeting, authorities said. A subsequent search of his computers turned up four pornographic images that had been downloaded from the Internet.
