Ex-Hoke teacher faces indecent liberties charges

Posted February 3, 2011

— A former Hoke County elementary school teacher was arrested last week in Yadkin County on indecent liberties charges, authorities said Thursday.

Robert Vaughn Carr Jr., 29, was charged Jan. 27 with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor, and he was released after posting a $40,000 bond.

Carr was hired last month as a kindergarten teacher at Upchurch Elementary School, but Hoke County Schools officials said they then received a call from someone in Yadkin County about pending charges against him. He resigned on Jan. 21 when school administrators confronted him about the allegations, officials said.

A background checks will not always reveal everything. Administration must do a better job of sorting through the past of potential teachers.

Gee, the school system does not do a background check on teachers?!?!? That is crazy! To just be a volunteer in Wake County, you have to submit to a background check.

I think this falls back on Hoke County Leadership not only does it fall back on the school superintendent but the school principal. I don't think he resigned, I think he was fired. If I was a parent with a child in this classroom I would be demanding answers from the principal and the school superintendent. Instead of the Leadership in Hoke County worrying about their paycheck that need to be worrying about the children. They are the future. I think WRAL needs to do more research into this more. I don't think this is the full story.

Keep raising the penalty for the crime until the numbers drop. With CSI-era evidence, including DNA, I say if the case is solid... put them to death. That'll make some kid-touchers think twice.

I worked at a church nursery school and am a female . They ran a full background check on me, which was fine by me since I have nothing to hide! What is wrong with the school system that they are not checking ???

The Church has kicked the pedophiles out into the public school system. It's a fringe benefit demanded by the Teacher's Union.

My theory is that sexual predation is decreasing because:

1- We have more & quicker access to news. News is often global not just local. As a result, we are exposed to more of these stories.

2- Technology may merely exposing the true amount of sexual predators & pedophiles that have always been in schools & churches.

3- Churches are less powerful (not as many gov't roles) and less revered than they used to be (they can't burn us anymore). And, people have stopped giving them so many special rights, especially when it comes to pedophilia.

IMO, the combination of these aspects should bring global pedophilia rates down.

What is it lately with all the pedophiles in positions of authority in the schools lately?

If it is not a resource officer(police), it is someone on the educational staff. Between the pedophiles, bullies, violence and drugs it is not safe to have a child in the public school system anymore.

No kidding!!! Background checks should be the precursor for employment along with drug test. Aren't the kids worth it?
