Ex-boyfriend charged again in Shaw student's 1996 murder
Raleigh police on Wednesday arrested for the second time in nearly two decades the ex-boyfriend of a Shaw University student whose body was found in Vance County nearly a year after she disappeared in 1996.

Edwin Christopher Lawing, 40, of 551 Old Charlotte Road, Concord, was charged with murder in connection with the death of Lacoy McQueen, 20, who was reported missing May 17, 1996, when she never showed up to meet a friend at North Carolina State University's Bell Tower.
In March the following year, a construction crew discovered her remains off U.S. Highway 1 near Kittrell.
Lawing, an N.C. State student at the time, was initially arrested in the case, but prosecutors dismissed the first-degree murder charge two months later because of a lack of evidence.
According to WRAL News reports from 1997, friends said McQueen was pregnant and that she and Lawing had been arguing about the pregnancy when she disappeared.
New testing – not available 17 years ago – recently led investigators back to Lawing for the crime, police said.
A grand jury indicted him on Monday, and he was arrested in Cornelius Wednesday morning.
