GREENVILLE, N.C. — A New Bern man who used to work as a bail bondsman now needs to post bail himself after Pitt County authorities charged him with kidnapping and extortion.

Terrence Lamont Holloway, 55, of 1204 Goldsboro St., was in the Pitt County jail Thursday under a $210,000 bond on charges of second-degree kidnapping, extortion and attempting to obtain money by false pretense.

Authorities said Holloway took someone facing outstanding criminal charges from Pitt County to another county on Nov. 2 and threatened to put the person in the Pitt County jail unless the person paid him more money than the value of the person's bond.

Holloway's bonding license has been suspended for about a year, authorities said, which precludes him from acting as a bail agent.
