RALEIGH, N.C. — EVOO, a popular restaurant in Raleigh's Five Points district, has closed.

The restaurant closed June 23, according to a message posted on the restaurant's Web site. It does not say why.

"We wanted to personally thank everyone for their support over the years. Without this loyal support, EVOO would not have been able to survive seven memorable years serving the downtown Raleigh community," the message stated.

It goes on to say that the restaurant's owners are looking to open a new restaurant that "would incorporate the same great ambiance, service, food, and beverages EVOO has always provided."

Earlier this year, nine customers suddenly became ill after eating at the restaurant.

A Wake County's Environmental Health and Safety Division report released Tuesday found anchovies purchased from U.S. Food Service were to blame for the illnesses.
