RALEIGH, N.C. — Gov. Mike Easley has declared Tuesday as Tourism Day in North Carolina. Several events are planned for downtown Raleigh and the state’s Welcome Centers to promote North Carolina as a tourist destination.

More than 45 million visitors came to North Carolina in 2006. That makes North Carolina the sixth-most-visited state in the nation, according to the state Department of Commerce. Those visitors had a $15 billion dollar impact on the state economy, the report said.
