Escapee from Lansing Correctional Facility apprehended

Authorities in Lansing have apprehended a man who they say escaped from a prison in the area Friday morning.

LANSING, KS — Authorities in Lansing have apprehended a man who they say escaped from a prison in the area Friday morning.

Lansing police say James Stewart II, 34, escaped from Lansing Correctional Facility about 8:30 a.m.

Members of the United States Marshall's Fugitive Task Force arrested Stewart at 10:54 a.m. in Topeka.

Stewart was driving a white 2008 Chevy Impala with a Kansas official state license plate number 16520.

Authorities do not know how Stewart escaped.

Stewart was serving time for an aggravated robbery conviction out of Jefferson County in 2013. His earliest possible release date was May 5, 2021.
