MADISON COUNTY, GA — The family of Ricky Dubose, one of the inmates accused of shooting and killing two corrections officers while escaping custody Tuesday, is pleading for him to turn himself in.

"I am begging you, baby, to please turn yourself in," said Brenda Tarver, a relative by marriage who said she has known Dubose since he was born. "We don't want anything bad to happen to you. I talked to your daddy last night (Tuesday), your daddy says to tell you to turn yourself in. Please, before this ends badly."

Dubose's father, Rocky, lives in Texas and spoke over the phone about his son's situation.

"He needs to stop (running)," said Rocky Dubose. "Ricky please stop man. Brother, they gonna kill you, if you don't give yourself up. I promise you."

When asked what he thinks his son was thinking at the time of the violent escape, which included the shooting death of two corrections officers, Dubose said: "He was probably thinking he was never going to get out of there anyway, what's he got to lose."

Dubose said he has not spoken with his son in six months. Tarver said she hasn't seen him since 2013, not long before he went back to prison.
