Authorities said that Stephen Hicks, 35, had made a court appearance in Oxford Wednesday and escaped while in transit between the courthouse and the Granville County Detention Center.

Apex police said a ‘be on the lookout” alert was issued for Hick Thursday afternoon after they received reports that he had been spotted.

Authorities said that Hicks was later spotted in Cary, driving on N.C. Highway 64 toward Chatham County at about 5 p.m.

Hicks has switched license plates on his car multiple times, according to the Granville County Sheriff’s Office.
