— "American Idol" Scotty McCreery took the stage Wednesday night in the area where he had many times been a spectator.

"It's pretty insane. This is the arena I grew up in, watched a lot of Hurricanes and Wolfpack. Who would have thunk it a few years ago?" McCreery said Wednesday, a few hours before he was scheduled to perform at the RBC Center alongside the other "American Idol" Top 11 contestants.  Scotty McCreery Scotty talks to WRAL after the concert

As the Idol winner, McCreery performed at the end of the Wednesday's concert. He entertained the crowd with his unofficial theme song – “Your Man” by Josh Turner – and his single "I Love You This Big."

The 17-year-old McCreery is a Garner native who won the 10th crown from the Fox television show in May. Just last year, he was a regular high school student on the baseball team and bagging groceries at the Lowes Foods in Garner.

McCreery had a little time to visit his home on Wednesday, saying he took an hour-long nap in his own bed. "It was nice to see the dogs and be normal," he said.

McCreery also planned to indulge with some local fast food.

"All the top 11 idols are getting Bojangles' tonight. You cannot come to North Carolina and not get some Bojangles'," he said.

Judy McCreery has been on tour with her son – since he is a minor, he has to travel with a chaperone. She said it has been a lot of fun and she still has to ask herself every night, "Is that my baby boy on stage?"

Fans piled into the RBC Center to see their favorite Idol.

"He's amazing, and we're as a family obsessed with him," Hannah Davenport said.

Brent Brockschmidt said his family is hooked on McCreery. "My daughter fell in love with him, and we've been fans ever since."

Keeping_it_Reel: Lady Gaga sold a million in a week because Amazon offered her album for 99 CENTS. That's right, the whole album for less than a dollar. I don't care for her and even I considered buying it for 99 cents. And no, I don't care for Scotty either.....

I was at the show last night and it was dissapointing to say the least. Scotty did not come out till the very last. The first half of the show was to be quite honest boring. Its ok to just be up there singing I guess if you are Barbara Streisand but they did not do it for the crowd that was in that packed arena. Nothing exciting about it. Also the security was over the top, you would have thought it was the president of the US the way they guarded the stage. When I came up to give my ticket I had to go all the way back to my car, they would not let me take my camera in because it had a detachable lens. Insane!
I went to a previous concert with Adam Lambert and company, they put on a killer show, everyone was on there feet the whole time. No comparison at all! I will say though that as soon as James Durban came out everyone was on their feet. To me he was the only one even trying to be entertaining.
The previous show I attended also had a great band plus their own backup singers. Last n

GREAT photo collection of last night's show. I wanted to go but waited to long to get tickets and they were sold out.

I must commend WRAL for making it possible for their viewers to freely send in their photos of this show and posting them here.
That applies to all the viewer-generated photos, and not just AI show.

How many charities does Scotty have? How much has he donated? Lady Gaga is VERY religous. You must never took the time to actually listen to her. She believes is Jesus. She is VERY spiritual. She prays. You just said her LOOKS (by performance) distracted you! LOL God IS watching YOU! LOL "just freaky". God is so proud of you! She comes on the radio. You dont have to look at her. She is MUCH MUCH more talented than Scotty. Her record sales show that. Let me know when Scotty sales a million in his lifetime. She did it in less than a WEEK.

    good christian?

You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,
6 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.

" The talent lies in the creativity involved with writing- "

Wrong. The talent lies in the delivery.

  • Evolve Jul 28, 2011

Anyone who thinks 'Idol' contestants have talent don't know much about music. The talent lies in the creativity involved with writing- which none of them do. Scott needs to come up with something original and stop being a Josh Turner wannabe.

To all you speaking about him being young and getting into this horrible music industry as a child. Just an FYI it is not the industry that destroys these kids lives. The fact of the matter is their parents push them into doing things that are way beyond their years and get them into situations they do not need to be. They put pressure and stress on these children that they cannot handle and therefore pushing them into partying, drugs and other sinful behaviors. Beyond that as well the country music industry has shown time and time again that they have values and standards aside from other genres in the industry that promote sex and drugs. How many country artists have you seen that have been to rehab or been in the public eye for things like amy winehouse and all these rock stars over the past 30 years. I think he will have a fullfulling life & music career as he seems to have a great head on his shoulders and an amazing support system in his family, friends and fan base.
