Beach music singer passes away

— The lead singer of the popular beach music trio Chairmen of the Board has passed away.

General Norman Johnson died Wednesday in Charlotte at the age of 67. There's no word on what caused his death.

Johnson won a Grammy for the song "Patches.” He is also known for the hit song "Just a Little More Time.”

    Thank you for doing this brief story on General Johnson. Hopefully WRAL will do something more in tribute for such a great man who was truly a North Carolina treasure. Beach music fans across the state are mourning this loss. His song, I'd Rather be in Carolina" is a beautiful advertisement for our state.

    General Norman Johnson was an icon and legend in beach music. One of the greatest entertainers of all time, love to work the crowd. He will be missed for sure and may he rest in peace.
