Rock And Roll (The Early Years) II

Dr. Tom is back today with another trip down musical memory lane.

Slick back that duck tail haircut or put on your poodle skirt; it's time for ye olde quizmeister to take you back again to those early years of Rock and Roll.

Where did that phrase come from? One story has it that black former gospel singers used that phrase to describe the total rush they got performing their rhythmic music on stage. Another is that it was a popular slang term amongst Rhythm and Blues musicians for S-E-X. (Yes, I am spelling it out. Back in the '50s, my mom would have washed my mouth out even for that.)

But there's little doubt that the term was popularized by a certain disk jockey who first used it on the air. Who was that famous father of modern rock and roll?
