Garner welcomes "American Idol" finalist Scotty McCreery

In advancing to the Top 3 on "American Idol," Garner's Scotty McCreery earned a hometown celebration May 14, 2011.  

Up to 30,000 people were expected at Garner's Lake Benson Park for a parade and concert in his honor.

Scotty's schedule:

• 8 a.m.: Radio interviews
• 9:30 a.m.: Garner AT&T Store, 7055 White Oak Road
• 10:30 a.m.: Garner High School, 2101 Spring Drive
• 1:40 p.m.: Garner Lowes Foods, 1845 Aversboro Road
• 2 p.m.: Lake Benson Park, 921 Buffaloe Road
• 6 p.m.: NC State baseball game, 1081 Varsity Drive in Raleigh (*Tickets required)

Join the party

Concert: The main event is the party at Lake Benson Park in Garner. Fans should plan to arrive by noon.
Pets, tents, coolers and RVs aren't allowed in the park.

Parking: Buffaloe Road will be closed for the parade. Shuttles will run from Bryan Farm, 1832 Bethel Church Road, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. RVs can park there.
