A "taste of the south" takes on a whole new meaning when you step onto Mami-Nora's turf. Southerners, as we like to call ourselves, immediately associate that phrase with chicken and dumplings, collard greens and pecan pie. But Mami-Nora's invites you to experience its taste of the south…South America, that is.
With roots in Perú, Mami-Nora's is best known for its roasted chicken. Unforgettable in flavor, this traditional dish is first cooked in a special marinade and then roasted in a Peruvian oven that uses only wood charcoal. It's this charcoal roasting method that allows Mami-Nora's to create and bring an aromatic essence of its culture to the south. Pair this Mami-Nora's specialty with Yucca fries, sweet plantains or black beans to fully taste Peruvian cuisine.
After a fire caused Mami-Nora's first opening in 2007 to close unexpectedly, the restaurant came back with an even stronger Peruvian boldness and re-opened their doors to Durham locals. And to the delight of those living east of Durham, Mami-Nora's soon opened a second location in Raleigh.
If you are looking for takeout, Mami Nora's will also assemble a fresh plate to go with options ranging from chicken salad to steak and vegetables over rice. Prices start at $7.95 per person for meat, sides – including the unexpected plantains and yucca fries – and drinks.
