Raleigh runners dash, dine for charity
The fundraiser that began as a dare resulted in more than 7,500 people running the streets of Raleigh Saturday morning and more than $100,000 for the NC Children's Hospital.

In 2004, a group of friends challenged each other to run from the campus of North Carolina State University to the Krispy Kreme store on Peace Street. Thus was born the Krispy Kreme Challenge.
The route expanded to five miles this year with more than 7,600 runners registered for the opportunity to race to the donut shop, down a dozen and race back to the NC State Belltower. The student-organized charity race benefits the NC Children’s Hospital.
The race started at 8:30 a.m., and the first runners crossed the finish line about half an hour later. Alex Varner won the men's division with a time of 28:37.
Organizers said the 2012 race raised more than $100,000.
