If you have ever visited Out & About before, you are no doubt seeing some changes today in the way the pages look. But our overhaul of the site goes well beyond cosmetic changes.

If you have ever visited Out & About before, you are no doubt seeing some changes today in the way the pages look. But our overhaul of the site goes well beyond cosmetic changes.

Here's a rundown of what you'll find in the new Out & About:

We've tapped Tyler Helikson as our Out & About editor. Tyler lives in downtown Raleigh and will be covering the Triangle's restaurant and nightlife scene. If there's a new restaurant opening or a building being renovated for new uses, Tyler will be among the first to tell you about it. His blog, Tyler's Tap, features video profiles and features on chefs, bartenders, entrepreneurs and other interesting people who are breathing life into our communities.
The new section front is designed to highlight the best of what's happening. You'll see big, colorful images, and our Best Bets section will have at least one hand-picked recommendation a day from our staff, including calendar editor Sarah Adams.
While Best Bets is all about the best and biggest events, Our Five Faves is our Best of the Triangle list. Each week, we'll bring you a new category with our top picks for where to eat and be entertained. We start out with Best Gourmet Burgers and Best Pizza. We don't expect you to agree with our list, and we want to hear what you think we missed. We want a lively discussion in the comments area.
We've added reviews to our event and venue pages. We're pulling in reviews from Yelp, but we also want our visitors to share their experiences when dining out or attending a movie or concert. Knowledge is power!
Heard a movie title but not quite sure what it's about? Be sure to check out the movie trailers on our movie listing pages.
Speaking of movie listings, we've improved the design of the pages and made it easier to browse for show time by day of the week.
At its core, Out & About is database of things to do and places to go. And for a database to be useful, it has to return results in a way that users understand and expect. So we've improved the layout of our search results and added new filters to help you drill down to specific content on specific dates.

So we hope you'll spend some time with the new Out & About, and be sure to come to our launch party on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Babylon in downtown Raleigh. We'll have free food, giveaways, a fire dancer, a muralist and two DJs.
