Dr. Brad Kirkman, General (Ret.) H. Hugh Shelton Distinguished Professor of Leadership and head of the Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the NC State Poole College of Management.
Brad's research focuses on leadership, international management, virtual teams, and work team leadership and empowerment. His article on the topic, "Team leaders should play favorites (but only in moderation) was published in the Harvard Business Review in January 2016. Another research article was selected as the most influential research paper published in the Journal of International Business. (Read more)
These are among the many Brad's many articles and book chapters that he has published in his career, on topics such as leadership, increasing the effectiveness of virtual teams, cross-cultural management issues, and team empowerment. Brad received his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before joining the Poole College faculty, he was the Foreman R. and Ruby Bennett Endowed Chair in Business Administration in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. He has also worked in the Scheller College of Management at The Georgia Institute of Technology and the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. He has held visiting professor positions in the Department of Management and Organizations at the University of Western Australia in 2006 and the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University in 2012.
