Durham, N.C. — Jean Yao, a basketweaver from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., earned $1,000 cash prize Sunday as the Best in Show at Durham's CenterFest.
Three local arts executives judged the 130 visual artists who participated in downtown Durham's biggest annual arts event. Organizers said about 24,000 people enjoyed the art and entertainment during the two-day event.
Other winners are:
- First place: Santiago Gutierrez, a ceramics artist from Zebulon;
- Second place: Barbara Umbel, a jeweler from Melbourne, Fla.;
- Third place: Richard Wilson, a pastel artist from Greenville;
- Citizen's Choice award: Melissa Lowery, a jeweler from Zebulon
