Oktoberfest celebrations in the Triangle

Oktoberfest, a 16-day festival held in Germany, begins Sept. 22 and runs through Oct. 7. Just because we're halfway across the world doesn't mean we can't take part in the celebrations!

Oktoberfest, a 16-day festival held in Germany, begins Sept. 22 and runs through Oct. 7. Just because we're halfway across the world doesn't mean we can't take part in the celebrations! Here's are the Triangle's best Oktoberfest events.

Bavarian Brathaus Durham 8-weekend celebration (Friday and Saturday nights from Sept. 21 - Oct. 27)
  • For you: Live German music, 20 imported German draft beers on tap and specials on beer and schnapps.
  • For the kids: Children's tickets include admission, a German dinner, soft drinks and ice cream.
Bull City Burger Street Party (Saturday, Sept. 22, 4 - 11 p.m.)
  • For you: Live music, burgers, brats and beer.
  • For the kids: Bounce house and balloon animals.
Lafayette Village Celebration (Saturday, Sept. 22, 12 - 10 p.m.)
  • German food, music and local beer.
Carolina Brewery in Pittsboro Celebration and 5K (Saturday, Sept. 29, 4 - 10 p.m.)
  • For you: Live music, new Oktoberfest lager and authentic German food.
  • For the athletes: 5K race at 9 a.m. in Powell Place neighborhood. Participants receive a t-shirt, complimentary breakfast and free entry to the celebration at night.
  • For the kids: Free fun race (children 6 and under) in the morning after the 5K, activities and music at night.
Seaboard Station in downtown Raleigh Street Party (Saturday, Sept. 29, 2 - 9 p.m.)
  • For you: Local restaurants with Oktoberfest-themed menus, numerous beer stations and beer from Hacker-Pschorr Brewery, one of the original Oktoberfest beers from Munich.
  • For the kids: Several bounce houses and slides.
 Tir na nOg 8K and after-party (Saturday Oct. 20, 3 p.m.)
  • For you: After-party in Moore Square.
  • For the athletes: One winner chosen at random for a trip to Germany, and all participants will receive a free beer after the run. There will also be prizes given for categories such as "Fastest man and woman wearing lederhosen," best eco-friendly costume and best German costume.
