'Chicago' goes on without Brinkley

Posted July 31, 2012

Model and actress Christie Brinkley had to call in sick for opening night of the musical "Chicago" at the Durham Performing Arts Center on Tuesday.

Brinkley has received critical acclaim for her debut as Roxie Hart in "Chicago" on Broadway and in London’s West End. She has been reprising the role on a nationwide tour.

The DPAC sent out an email late Tuesday afternoon to those with tickets to that night's performance stating that Brinkley would not be able to perform due to illness. A Broadway cast member was flown in to replace Brinkley, who might perform later in the week if approved by her doctor.

"Chicago" is at the DPAC through Sunday. Tickets are still available and you can get them through:

Bless her Roxie Hart, Christie deserves to take a long overdue breather after all that she has been through! Seems like she has always been so close to her parents and having to say so long for now to one is brutal enough, I pray that Christie is granted some of the serenity she has earned. I feel so lucky to have seen her in this show and I know she will be on Broadway often if she wants to, she is that great!
