Calling local musicians: musicSPARK is looking for you

Published: 2012-06-14 16:12:00
Updated: 2012-06-14 16:12:00

MusicSPARK, part of the annual SPARKcon event held in downtown Raleigh this September, is seeking artists and volunteers for this year's event.

"As SPARKcon cultivates a community of artists stronger and better than any single component, musicSPARK facilitates collaborations between (and beyond) all our various art forms/platforms," organizers say on the official website.

The group looks to place selected musicians "in front of some of the sweetest, most receptive, supportive audiences on the face of the planet."

If you are up to the challenge, submit an application. There is a $10 non-refundable entry fee to help cover event expenses.

If you get picked for this year's festival, you will have a chance to earn some cash by selling your own swag/merch during your performance. (Note: SPARKcon takes no percentage of merchandise sales during musicSPARK events.)

The entry deadline is June 30.

All submissions will be reviewed by the musicSPARK committee, which will determine which acts to send invitations to in the event there are more submissions than slots to play.

Invitations will be sent out by July 16.

SPARKcon is Sept. 13-17 in downtown Raleigh.

Sparkcon was in Raleigh LONG before Hopscotch- maybe THEY should change their dates? There is always something going on in downtown, can't see how this would hurt either event- especially if a local band can do both and reach and even wider audience in a short time frame.

need to change time of year it is done, same month as hopscotch just dosen't work. appreciate people supporting local music though.

$10 minimum entry fee, BTW.

They should make money just issuing rejections as they'll likely get more applications than they can handle or accept.
