Ken Smith's Five Fave Beach Restaurants

Beach season is upon us, and we asked the folks in the newsroom to share with us their own beach-related Five Faves! Anchor/reporter Ken Smith has spent a lot of time at the beach, sometimes covering hurricanes! Here are his Five Favorite Beach restaurants:

Hurricane Earl kicks up surf at Nags Head

Stack Em High (Outer Banks) - My overall favorite eating haunt but it only serves breakfast.

Owens (Nags Head) - best place for dinner.

Basnight's in the Outer Banks(Nags Head) - A very close second to Owens for a great dinner.

Sugar Creek Seafood (Nags Head)

Nags Head

Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant (Wanchese)

Was underwhelmed by Lone Cedar food and service. Go early if you go at all. Would not wait in line for their food or anyone else's for that matter.

We love Basnight's and Fisherman's Wharf too. Great breakfasts at Darrrell's in Manteo (delish country ham). Discovered in April 2012 the best pork bbq we have ever tasted at High Cotton bbq in Kitty Hawk (good collards too; wish they would open a High Cotton in NW Raleigh); owner is from Rocky Mount. Best tasting and freshest fried shrimp ever & yummy slaw/hush puppies at Crab Shack in Salter Path. Tasty grilled mahi mahi and key lime pie at Shuckers in Wilmington.

Agree with Basnight's. Very nice place and good food. I also like the Black Pelican.

Basnight's is a favorite of ours, too. Never been disappointed there.

Obviously you haven't been to Kure Beach. Freddie's has the best American/Italian food around. Many awards for their food and atmosphere. Check it out!!!

Hey Ken---There is more than one beach in North Carolina. You need to get some assignments to other beach towns!!!

You need to add Captain George's Seafood Buffet in Kill Devil Hills. It is AWESOME if you are looking for a good buffet. Aren't many of buffets left at the beach that are good. This one is top of the line!!!
