There's a new food truck in the Bull City, y'all, and it's serving sizzling skewers of chicken, pork and shrimp just in time for the summer heat.

Mama Dukes is Greek eats on wheels from father and son Michael and Mike Alexakis, with help from Mike's wife, Christina. They say they're taking classic Mediterranean food and adding some Southern flair.

I'd say they're right.

Customers wait for souvlakis from Mama Dukes food truck parked at Sam's Quik Shop, at 1605 Erwin Road, in Durham.

We checked it out the weekend the truck launched at Sam's Quik Shop on Erwin Road. We ordered one chicken souvlaki with tzatziki (cucumber yogurt sauce), bread and falafel tots and one pork with red pepper tahini, bread and baked beans. Two heaping plates of food cost us $20.

The chicken was especially juicy, the baked beans were out of this world and the falafel tots were an inventive way to turn a Mediterranean staple into street food.

Though meat on a stick seems to be the perfect walker-friendly food, I found that a fork is definitely required to dig in. So look for Mama Dukes when it's parked near a shady place to sit and enjoy!

Or, as the Greeks say, "kali orexi."
