The Out & About team is still recovering from such a busy weekend! There was a lot going on in downtown Raleigh and beyond, and we tried to cover as much of it as possible. Check out what we did this weekend:

Viewers watch a movie about length scales in the SECU Daily Planet during the opening of the Nature Research Center at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences on April 20, 2012.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences opened its new wing, the Nature Research Center, on Friday to much fanfare. They held a 24-hour opening complete with music, food trucks and more. Read about the highlights of the NRC or view pics from opening day.

A little rain didn't stop the fun in downtown Raleigh on Saturday.

This chihuahua was entered into the Smallest Dog contest. The contest took place after the SPCA Walk in downtown Raleigh.
Dogs and their humans packed Moore Square in the morning for the annual K9 3-K to benefit the SPCA of Wake County. Pooches got to compete in various competitions like best kiss and best dressed. We actually saw one dog painted blue with a green/yellow Mohawk. We couldn't get a photo of the little toy poodle because of the rain, but he definitely made an impression. Check out some of our pics from the event.

Apricot poppyseed kuchen
North Hills held its first Farmers' Market of the season on Saturday. These pics are just making us hungry! If you missed it this week, don't worry because it is held every Saturday.

People enjoyed bluegrass and barbecue at The Pit's annual Cuegrass event on April 21, 2012.
Barbecue and bluegrass took center stage at The Pit's annual Cuegrass festival Saturday afternoon. Check out our photos from the party on West Davie Street.

And finally, aspiring singers crowded Crabtree Valley Mall on Saturday hoping to earn a guaranteed audition in front of X Factor producers. Hundreds turned out for Fox 50's X Factor contest. Check out our recap and pics.

So, what did you do this weekend?
