Hip-hop crew The Roots will headline the Hopscotch Music Festival this fall, festival organizers announced Wednesday.

The Roots will take the stage in Raleigh City Plaza on Sept. 8 joined by New York disco outfit Escort and Shirlette and The Dynamite Brothers. It will be one of two shows at the downtown space. The night before rock legends Built to Spill and The Jesus and Mary Chain will share the stage. They will be joined by Zammuto.

Hopscotch, which is scheduled for Sept. 6-8, has grown to feature 175 bands performing at 15 venues. Memorial Auditorium, the Contemporary Art Museum and the Long View Center were added as new venues this year.

Some of this year's bands include Yo La Tengo, Liars, Sunn O))), Danny Brown, Thee Oh Sees, Baroness, Death Grips, Deerhoof, Damien Jurado, Laurel Halo, Pallbearer, Young Magic, Lambchop, Oneida, The Spits and Colin Stetson.

In addition to national acts, the festival will also keep its tradition of featuring local performers, like Gross Ghost (Carrboro), The Whatever Brains (Raleigh) and The Mountain Goats (Durham).

“We’ve added three larger rooms, but we’ve also kept the walkable downtown footprint,” Hopscotch founder and director Greg Lowenhagen said in a press release. “It should still feel like Hopscotch weekend here in Raleigh. The festival just features more national names mixed in with local favorites.”

Hopscotch 3-day wristbands went on sale in December. There are 200 of these wristbands left for sale. You can choose from two options: the $165 VIP wristband or the $110 All-Show wristband. Each get your into all 14 festival club shows and both City Plaza headlining shows.

One of the benefits of a VIP wristband: If there is a line, VIP wristbands are admitted first. Some clubs will meet capacity and then no one else will be allowed in.

Single day passes, which will get you into all Hopscotch shows on a specific day, will range from $55-75 and be available in July. Also on sale in July, single tickets to the City Plaza headlining shows. Tickets will be $34 a person for each show.
