Lumpy's Ice Cream holds grand opening in Wake Forest

Known for its inventive flavors, like bacon and bourbon, Lumpy's Ice Cream is a favorite at the North Carolina State Fair. Now, you can have it (almost) anytime!

Lumpy's is holding an official grand opening for its first retail store at 306 E. Wait Ave. in Wake Forest on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There will be giveaways (including Koka Booth Amphitheater tickets) and coupons. The N.C. Department of Agriculture will be bringing their giant Got to Be NC grocery cart and their educational RV.

Some of the Carolina Railhawks and their mascot will also be on hand.

Three special flavors will be offered on Saturday – Benni's Bacon and Bourbon (which has previously only been available at the fair), Angel's Apple Pie and Montezuma's Mexican Chocolate (which is described as a dark and spicy blend).

If you aren't up for the more adventurous flavors, they will always offer the staples – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and butter pecan in the store.

Lumpy's is open 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday - Thursday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Sundays.

You all will love Lumpy's Ice Cream. We are friends with the owner, Buck. I'm not one for eating the "boring" flavors as I call strawberry, chocolate and vanilla but I had Lumpy's strawberry and it was the best strawberry I have ever had. Why? Because all the ingredients are fresh and the strawberries had just been picked the day before. It is worth the drive Ambygirl. :)

Yum!! I want to work there:)

I have to say, I've not heard of them before but I am intrigued by the flavors. I'd be willing to taste Montezuma's Mexican Chocolate. I love spicy! I may just head on out there tomorrow and see what it's all about....
