I have to admit, I feel a little cooler and more hip just because I know who Esperanza Spalding is.

Many people had never heard of her before the 53rd Grammy Awards in February 2011 when she became the first jazz artist to win the Grammy for Best New Artist. Now, you have the chance to hear her unique music for yourself on May 9 at The Carolina Theatre of Durham.
Spalding is set to begin touring after the March 20 release of her latest album, “Radio Music Society,” a mix of jazz, pop and soul music designed to fit right in on mainstream radio. In addition to the music, a series of conceptual short films will accompany each track. The first film is now on the Esperanza Spalding official website in advance of the album release. Check it out, and if you’re so inclined, you can also pre-order "Radio Music Society."
Tickets are on sale now for the May 9 concert. Buy them online or call the box office at (919) 560-3030.
