Take the plunge for a good cause

A Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics in North Carolina is planned on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Lake Raleigh on North Carolina State University's Centennial campus. 

A minimum donation of $50 is required to take the leap. And you are encouraged to come in costume. You can register online or on-site an hour before the event. 

The plunge, which is organized by the NC State University Police, also coincides with the Special Olympics Torch Run 5K which begins at 8:30 a.m. that day at Lake Raleigh. 

The fun starts with a festival running from 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. The plunge is at 11 a.m. 

Prizes will be awarded for: 

  • Youngest Plunger
  • Oldest Plunger
  • Plunger with the Best Individual Costume
  • Plungers with the Best Team costume
  • The largest fundraising group - both Students and Non-students
  • The top individual fundraiser

If you don't want to take the leap, it is free to watch.
