The Hibernian in Raleigh is hosting a kick-off event Wednesday night for volunteers and participants in this year's St. Baldrick's Foundation head-shaving fundraiser.

More than 400 people are expected to shave their heads at the Hibernian on Feb. 25 to help raise money for childhood cancer research. Nearly 150 people have already registered to shave at the event.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity, first held a head-shaving event at the Hibernian in 2006. Seventy-seven heads were shaved and more than $75,000 earned.

Since then, Hibernian-hosted events, which also include Cary location, have raised more than $1 million.

The kick-off event on Wednesday is from 7-9 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers to date and registered participants who bring a friend will be entered into a drawing for additional prizes.

Visitors at the Hibernian can support St. Baldrick's by buying a lucky charm placard that will be hung in the restaurant.

Here are some other local St. Baldrick's events coming up:

  • March 3 - Napper Tandy's Irish Pub at 11 a.m.
