The classic Dr. Seuss story "Green Eggs and Ham" will get the North Carolina Symphony treatment on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Rob Kapilow, composer of The Polar Express, puts his spin on Dr. Seuss’s beloved story of Sam-I-Am and his green eggs and ham during the shows at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Meymandi Concert Hall.

Kapilow will host the symphony’s performances and lead the orchestra in a Mozart-inspired take on the classic story. The show will include interactions with the audience and expansions on the book's message of acceptance and trying new things.

"Green Eggs and Ham" is part of the 2011-12 NC Symphony Kids Series, which is geared toward children ages 4-12. The shows feature pre-concert games and the chance for children to try out different instruments.

The final show of the 2011-12 Kids series, "Bug Songs," will have the orchestra imitating the sounds of the musicians of the bug world. That show is March 10.
