The Roast Grill, or "Hot Weiners" as most regulars know it, has been home to some of the best hot dogs around for more than 70 years.
Yet, despite an appearance on Travel Channel's Man vs. Food, I constantly find that people either have no clue what I'm talking about or they've heard "Hot Weiners" and have no idea where to find it.

Trust me, you MUST give these hot dogs a try.

The Roast Grill is located in downtown Raleigh on West Street, in between Morgan and Hillsborough Streets, right behind Ugly Monkey Party Bar Try not to blink once you get in a 2-block radius, you may drive right by.

Behind the 8-stool counter you'll find founder, Mrs. Mary Charles, and "host," George Poniros (mother and son team) "burning 'em for you."

Each dog is $2.50 and comes with the option of the following toppings:

- Homemade CHILI (70+ year old recipe treasure!)
- Yellow Mustard (plain-old-SAUERS)
- Hand chopped ONIONS, sweet and mean!

- Hand chopped SLAW, marinated / no mayo !

Those four, that's it. Whatever you do, don't ask for the following:

- NO Ketchup
- NO Cheese
- NO Mayo
- NO Kraut
- NO Relish
- NO Fries
- NO Chips
- NO Coffee
- NO Hot-tea
- NO Iced-tea
- NO Sweet-tea

- NO Visa-MC-Debits

The Roast Grill is an experience in every sense of the word. The dogs are great, George and his mother are most hospitable, and you can sneak out with two dogs (all the way, of course) and a baby Coke for $6.00.  Enjoy!
