Cooke Street Carnival returns to downtown Raleigh

Having played second fiddle to the NC State Fair each year, the carnival has decided embrace its sideshow nature.

Get ready to break out your inner carnie!

This Saturday, October 15th, the Cooke Street Carnival will return for its third year from 1-6 pm on Cooke Street, just a few blocks east of the Governor's Mansion in downtown Raleigh.
Expect to see over 20 art vendors, beer from Carolina Brewing Company and some of the best food trucks and vendors the area has to offer. 
The theme for this year's event is Cooke Street Carnival 2011: The Sideshow.  Having played second fiddle to the NC State Fair each year, the carnival has decided embrace its sideshow nature and attempt to bring out as much Circus Sideshow themed activities as possible.

Look for circus folk all along the street and bring your own interpretation of what it means to be a 21st century sideshow circus member.

There will be a stilt walker, hoola hoopers, a bearded lady, a tarot card reader and more to entertain throughout the day.  Costumes are strongly encouraged.

Live music will be provided by The Small Ponds, The Tomahawks, Nests and several others talented local acts.  

Just in case that wasn't enough, a dunking booth and a kissing booth have been arranged. 

As much as I love the State Fair, something tells me the scenery on Cooke Street may be quite memorable.  

Now if I only had something to wear....
