Boys and girls of all ages have sent questions for Santa to WRAL.com. See what the jolly old elf had to say about Rudolph, gift requests and how his helpers assist him.
What is the best present that you ever gave out? -- Serena, 8, Bunn
Have you ever heard the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"? Because a present is only as good as the recipient thinks it is. The best present for a little girl like you might not be the best for a grown-up, or even another girl on the other side of the world like in China or Japan.
My elves and I try to match the present to the child. That's why sometimes you ask for toys but get the warm clothes that you really need. I know a present is good when I see the smiles on the faces of children on Christmas.
The best present you can give to Santa and to your mom or dad is that smile and laughter.
I hope you have a very Merry Christmas filled with smiles!
How do you fly to every house at midnight? -- Courtney, 11, Cedar Grove
A lot of kids ask this question. It is a combination of science and magic.
The sleigh travels very fast and very high in order to get all the way around the world on Christmas Eve. Your parents can explain to you how the time zones mean that Christmas last longer than just one day.
The sleigh and reindeer are fueled by the Christmas Spirit, which lives in every one of you. The more you believe, the higher and faster I can fly.
What do your reindeer eat? How did you get the flying reindeer? -- Lauren, 8, Durham
The reindeer ate healthy during most of the year, but, like you, they enjoy Christmas treats! Some kids leave them carrots or oats, but others leave out cookies or cereal. They eat it all up!
They practice their flying at the North Pole all year round, but it is a bit of magic and the Christmas Spirit that really gets them off the ground. The more you believe, the higher and faster my sleigh can fly.
As you know it has been a rough year for all of us. My Christmas wish is for you to send me a maid to help keep my house clean. It's kinda hard considering both me and my husband work full-time jobs. Jake and Chris haven't really been helping out around the house as much as they should, so can I keep what you bring them? -- Christen, 33, Broadway
It sounds like you were a little short on Christmas spirit when you wrote this note.
I know that for grown-ups like you Christmas can seem like a hassle. You have to clean the house, buy gifts, decorate and be friendly to all the relatives. But I am here to remind you that none of that really matters.
Santa doesn't care if your house is clean. You can imagine what my place looks like on Dec. 26!
Take a moment to remember what Christmas really means. You have so many gifts -- your family, your husband, your job. I am sure when you think about it, the Christmas spirit will bring a big smile to your face.
Did Coca-Cola really invent your red suit? By the way, I'd like a new phone since mine broke in half. -- Catherine, 12, Raleigh
Coca-Cola did not invent my red suit -- Mrs. Claus did! She and the elves make the clothes for all of us at the North Pole! But in the days before TV, Coca-Cola put me on some advertisements because my suit matched the color of the soda label. Those advertisements were seen all over the world and they cemented the image that you see of me today -- as an old man with a white beard and a red-and-white suit.
Please pass along my request for peace for all who is serving in the military but especially Nick who is serving in the U.S. Army. He is my grandson. -- Audrey, 59, Sanford
Your Christmas wish is a great one! I will be sure to visit Nick because he has been a very good boy.
Santa, Have I been good or bad? Santa, you are the best and I love you. Some people don't believe in you, but I do. How can I help them to believe? -- Sydney, 7, Sanford
At 7 years old, you are old enough to know if you have been good or bad. I know you can always behave even better next year, too!
Thank you for the kind note. I love you too! If you believe in me and share the Christmas spirit, you can help others to believe. That means setting a good example -- even for grown-ups. At Christmas time, some people get caught up in wanting presents. But true believers like you know that giving to each other, even just a smile, spreads the cheer of the holiday.
Keep up the good work!
Why are your elves fat? Do you have a child? -- Blair, 8, Fuquay-Varina
The elves and I eat a lot of Christmas cookies, even when it is not Christmas season! That keeps us very round and jolly.
While Mrs. Claus and I do not have children of our own, we keep a special place in our hearts for all the children of the world.
Who is your frst reindeer? -- Jacob, 7, Raleigh
Santa has been bringing toys to children for years and years and years. Why I remember bringing a toy to your grandmother when she was just a little girl! Different reindeer help me every year, but many of them share the same name. Do you know someone who is named after their daddy? My reindeer are often named after their daddy, too. So some of the names you hear today, like Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen, have been handed down to the reideer from their daddies and granddaddies.
Once Christmas is over what do you the other 11 months of the year? -- Morgan, 9, Spiveys Corner
While Christmas Eve is my busiest time, I am working around the year to check on the boys and girls around the world and keep track of what the hottest toys are so that my elves can make them in the workshop.
For Christmas I want a Ford f-150 power wheel and a puppy, I have been a good little boy all year long, Thank you Santa. - Konnor, 2, of Selma

Do you like rock or pop better? If you like rock more what band? and with pop who? - Jessica Beck, 8, of Raleigh

Santa, I will be 2 tomorrow and I have tried to be a good boy. Will you please bring me a train?
I am still little scared to sit on your lap, but I really do love you! - Gavin, 2, Dunn
Thank you for writing to me! It is OK that you are a little scared. My beard and giant suit even scare me sometimes when I look into the mirror! I will put your order in right away! Merry Christmas!
My brother is in Duke Children's Hospital and I was wondering if you could bring the children at Duke lots of presents this year.? P.S Am I on the nice list? Merry Christmas! - Colette, 9, of Raleigh
You are on my Nice List. And you are a very good sister to care about your brother and the other patients at Duke so much! I will make sure to bring the children there as many gifts as I can. You might not have seen them, but a few of my elves are actually at the hospital all the time to keep a close eye on all the patients and give them a little extra Christmas spirit when they need it. Merry Christmas and I hope your brother feels better soon.
A baby kitchen, a ducky, and soap. Please. - Caitlin, 3, of Roxboro
Straight and to the point, I like that! I will put your order in immediately. I will see what I can do. I am glad to hear that you like duckies. I do too!
Santa, I really want a laptop, Nintendo ds games, the real Harry Potter, a cell phone, and anything else that you think I would like. I haven't been the best but I really want all of these things. - Nicholas, 6, of Roxboro.
Thanks for writing! I will put your order in with the elves. Hopefully they will be able to get some of the items you requested complete by Christmas. It might be difficult for me to find the real Harry Potter, though, he is pretty elusive. I will see what I can do.
Santa, I have been very, very good this year. I do argue with my brother and sister. But, I want squinkies, a camera, and Nintendo ds games please. - Lily, 8, of Roxboro
You have been very good this year. It is OK to sometimes argue with your siblings. It happens. The reindeer will argue sometimes with each other, so do the elves. I will put your order in right away and hopefully my elves can complete it before Christmas! I will see what I can do.
What is your favorite place to visit on Christmas Eve?- Teto, 11, of Coppell, Texas
I really like to visit Disney World on Christmas Eve. I usually stop there and drop off Mickey and Minnie’s toys. It is great to see them and the whole Disney gang!
Can I borrow one of your elves? I've never seen one in my whole entire life! I'd like to play with one of them and have lots of fun time with him. - Garrett, 7, of Raleigh
Unfortunately, I can’t lend you one of my elves. They are very busy this time of year and are needed back at the North Pole. A few of them have been dispatched to local children’s hospitals to help bring special Christmas cheer to the patients when they need it. But these elves are in disguise, so no one even knows they are elves. I have lots of great gifts for you this year and can’t wait to bring them to you!
Santa, why do you have a beard? Also, is Mrs. Claus' real name Jessica? - Lauren, 8, of Durham
Thanks for the questions! I have a beard because it is so cold in the North Pole. I need it to keep my face warm. Also, Mrs. Claus’ first name is Mary. Her middle names are Jessica and Layla. Her full name before we got married was Mary Jessica Layla Christmas!
Do you like Harry Potter? Did you see the movie or read the book? The book is the best! - Griffin, 8, of Clayton
I am a big Harry Potter fan! I really enjoyed the books and now I am a fan of the movies too. The elves and I usually take the reindeer to see the movies in local theaters. Rudolph is interested in starting a Quidditch team in the North Pole. Thanks for the question!
How many presents do you make each day? - Morgan, 7, of Raleigh
My elves make thousands and thousands of presents each day for good little children like yourself. Thanks for the question!
Santa, I want to know if I'm on the naughty list because sometimes I talked in school when I wasn't suppose to, but I’ve been nice to my sister, so can I get the guitar I asked for? - Keanna, 7, of Fayetteville
You have been very good this year. It is OK that you talked in school. We all mess up sometimes. Overall, though, you listened to your teachers and parents and that is what counts! I will put in your order for a guitar. Hopefully my elves can finish it by Christmas. I will do what I can. Thanks for the question!

Santa, all I want for Christmas is a golf cart. - Gina, 13, of Clayton
That is one large order to fill. I am not sure I can fit one of those on the sleigh. Also, I need to talk with your parents before delivering such a gift. Let me see what I can do.
I know I am on the naughty list? Will you still be able to come and bring me presents? - Ashley, 7, of Clinton
I saw your name on my Naughty List and I was concerned. I called your parents and we decided that you still have some time to turn things around. If you behave this week, I think you can make it onto my Nice List before Christmas Eve.

Dear Santa, I am a huge fan of WWE wrestling and I want ALL wrestling stuff, how do you get them? Do you know any of the wrestlers? P.S. if you do, can ask for an autograph? - Colton, 10, of Broadway
I deliver gifts to the WWE wrestlers’ homes as well. I have met several of them in person, but don’t know any well enough to get an autograph. I have to say that The Rock and John Cena are my favorites! My elves are able to make WWE toys and shirts and a variety of other apparel. I will put in your order right away. Hopefully we can get it done in time for Christmas.
Can you teleport in houses because on YouTube, there is a video of you teleporting? - Campbell, 8, of Raleigh
Sometimes, I have to teleport so I can make it to all of the malls, schools and other places I usually visit before Christmas Eve. I am in such high-demand this time of year, I do have to use my teleportation skills. But on Christmas Eve, I get around the old-fashioned way with my sleigh and reindeer.
How many elves do you have? - Megan, 8, of Raleigh
I have hundreds and hundreds of elves working in my shop. They each work in departments - like dolls, trucks, action figures and pet toys. Others help with repairing my sleigh and training the reindeer. Thanks for the question!
Santa, can you please bring me the Wii game for Christmas and the Build-a Bear game that goes with it? I hope Mrs. Santa is doing good. I've been a good girl. - Pandora, 7, of Framingham
I will put your order in right away. The elves have been really busy filling last minute orders, but I will see what I can do.
Dear Santa, I would like a motorcycle for Christmas. And a trampoline. I left you a letter in my mailbox and it just disappeared. Mommy said an elf took it. Is that the same elf that dropped the letter in the mailbox from you telling me to be good or I was going to go on the Naughty List? I am trying to listen to my parents. - Garen, 5, of Fayetteville
I got your Christmas list. Thank you so much for sending it to me! One of my elves delivered it to me in the North Pole. A few of my elves travel around the globe this time of year picking up letters from good little children like you. I am glad that you got my letter. It is very important that you are very good and listen to your parents. I can’t wait to bring you lots of great gifts this year!
Santa, is Rudolph leading your sleigh this year? I love Rudolph. I have been a good boy. - Gavin, 4, of Framingham
Rudolph will be leading my sleigh again this year. He loves helping me find your home each year! He always yells out, ‘Here is Gavin’s house! Tell him I said ‘Hi!’” We have lots of great gifts for you this year!
What is your favorite holiday other than Christmas? - Trey M., 10, of Raleigh
Thank you for the question! I really like St. Patrick’s Day because everything is green that day! Green is another one of my favorite colors!
Dear Santa, I have been bad this year but can I still get presents? - Summer, 11, of Rocky Mount
I have been keeping track of you this year. When your name showed up on the Naughty List, I was concerned. I called your parents. If you promise to do better, I think we will let you get some presents this year. I will be talking with them all week, so make sure you try to be a good kid!
Dear Santa, can I have Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson for Christmas? - Angie, 17, of Rocky Mount
That’s funny, Mrs. Claus asked for the same thing this year? Weird....
How do you get in my house and I don't have a chimney? - Samy, 9, of Owatanna
Some houses don’t have chimneys, so I just use the front door. I can get in using my special “Santa Key.” Thanks for the question!
I have two questions: When is your birthday and I have a loose tooth, if I lose it on Christmas will you take the Tooth Fairy on your sleigh? - Ella, 7, of Raleigh
I knew you would be losing that tooth soon. The Tooth Fairy was telling me about it last week when we were talking on the phone. She was giving me her Christmas list. If your tooth does fall out on Christmas, I will give the Tooth Fairy a ride in my sleigh to pick it up! Oh and my birthday is Dec. 6.
Dear Santa, why do you give us presents and why do we hang stockings for you to put stuff in? - Seth, 8, of Franklinton
I give you presents because I love Christmas and I want to spread joy to everyone around the world. The tradition of stockings dates back many, many years to a time when people would hang their socks to dry over the fireplace. I used to leave gifts in their socks! Thanks for the questions!
Have I been good enough to get present from you? I love all the toys you have given me. Can I get a guinea pig from you? Can I be you head elf next year? I would really love to do that. It would make my wish come true. - Grayson, 10, of Roanoke Rapids
Let me check my Nice List....oh there you are! Your name is on it! I will be bringing you some gifts this year. Unfortunately, I can’t put a guinea pig on my sleigh. It is too cold for animals to travel with me on Christmas Eve. The reindeer are magical, so they can deal with the cold. Make sure you tell your parents how much you want a guinea pig. They might be able to help you get one.
So you want to be an elf? I already have a tons of elves, but there is always room for more. To become an elf, you need to be a little older though. And you must start by being good and listening to your teachers and parents. Keep up the good work and you might just become an elf one day.
Hello Santa, I am a father of four children. I am so glad this is the time of year for you to come to all the kids around the world. My children get so fired up just to see you every year. My children wanted me to write to you and let you know they thank you from the bottom of there hearts for you every year and to tell you how good they have been this year. My son told me to tell you to be careful and make sure you wear your seat belt and he would leave a light on so you could find our house. Please Santa, take your time and we will be waiting on you with some good old egg nog and some cookies to take on your trip. May God bless you and keep you safe. To everyone else have a Merry Christmas and a blessed new year. - Clifton, 39, of Prospect Hill
Thank you for such kind words! I love visiting your home each year. It is always so nicely decorated! Tell your son that I will be careful and will wear my seat belt on the sleigh. I have some great gifts for you and your family. Merry Christmas!
Santa may I please have an iPad for Christmas? - Devi siu, 12, of Raleigh
I will put your order in right away. Make sure to tell your parents about your order as well. My elves sometimes call to consult with them about specific gifts. I know there are a few different version of the iPad out there. Merry Christmas!
Santa, I always wondered what would be something that you would like to receive for a gift this year? You always give to others, what can we give to you? - Molly, 9, of Fuquay-Varina
My gift is the joy I see in a child’s face when they open up their presents. I love to make others happy. The only person who gets me an actual gift is Mrs. Claus. She usually gets me some pajamas and a box of chocolates each year. It is our tradition.
How old are you?... I LOVE YOU SANTA! - Deanna, 18, of Angier
Well, I am about 148 years old, but I don’t look a day over 122, at least that’s what Mrs. Claus tells me. Thanks for the question!
Do you like Pokemon? - Alec, 10, of Durham
I do like Pokemon. Pikachu is my favorite character, but I like them all.
Santa, people say you’re not real are you cause I always ask for stuff and never get what I want. I ask you in my heart to bring what I want. Am I on the Nice List? Have a wonderful and safe Christmas. - Brandon, 11, of Sanford
People say I’m not real sometimes. It doesn’t upset me too much anymore. As long as you think I’m real, that’s all that matters to me! As long as the children around the world believe, I am happy. I saw your name on my Nice List. Now, sometimes I don’t deliver everything a child asks for because I have to consult with your parents and family first. Sometimes, parents have concerns about some gifts, so I can’t bring them. Always talk to your parents about any gifts you want before requesting them on your list each year. I hope you are happy with the awesome stuff my elves have made this year for you. Merry Christmas!
Santa, why do you have a white beard and wear a red suit? - Mackenize, 3, of Franklinton
My hair is naturally white. I sometimes wish I had brown hair, but Mrs. Claus thinks my natural color looks best. I wear my red and white suit because those colors are associated with Christmas, my favorite holiday! Thanks for the question!
How do you make your reindeer fly? - Alec, 10, of Durham
Thanks for writing in! My sleigh and reindeer are able to fly using a little magic and the Christmas Spirit, which lives in every one of you. The more you believe, the higher I can fly. Have a Merry Christmas.
I am very sad this year because there is no Christmas for our family . Is it OK to be sad? I see all the people with their Christmas trees. I go home and there’s not one in our home.. But that's OK Santa, as my mommy tells me we have food. - Autumn, 13, of Broadway
Just because you don’t have a tree or presents, doesn’t mean you aren’t having Christmas. It is OK to be sad, but understand that Christmas isn’t about a tree or gifts. It is about being with the people you love and celebrating your time together. That is what makes the holidays so special.
Do you like the freezing weather and cold snow? - Kirby, 9, of Cary
I love snow! It is so much fun to run in the snow having snowball fights with the elves and reindeer! We love to do that in the North Pole. Living there, we see lots of cold and snow. My suit is so warm, I don’t even notice the cold weather anymore. Thanks for the question and bundle up, I hear it is going to be cold this weekend in Cary!
I really want a new skateboard deck. I believe in Santa and love him. I know that Christmas isn't just about presents and can I get a new skateboard deck? Why do you live in the north pole? - Connor, 9, of Garner
I will put in your order for a new skateboard deck right away. I already have some great gifts for you, so if the elves can’t get to the deck, don’t worry! We got you covered this year with some awesome stuff. Why do I live in the North Pole? I like the cold weather and the people here - there are tons of elves and reindeer. I don’t get mobbed going down the street and Mrs. Claus and I can go out on dates without having to worry about the paparazzi chasing us.
Dear Santa, Why can't you bring food because we might be hungry. And why do you wear a red and white suit? Why can't you wear a blue or a green suit? - Erin, 6, of Durham
Thanks for the questions. I don’t bring food because the reindeer have a bad habit of eating everything. I tried to bring some snacks on the flight last year and Rudolph devoured my bag of chips before we even got to Raleigh. I focus more on toys to keep the reindeer less tempted. As for my red and white suit, those colors look good on me. They are also associated with Christmas, which is my favorite holiday! I have some blue and green pajamas, but they don’t look as good on me.
For Christmas, I would love to have toys for my baby sister and baby cousin. They are very young and it is so exciting to see their faces light up when they get new toys. Thank you for taking your time to read this letter. I KNOW YOU MUST HAVE A LOT MORE! - Vanessa, 11, of Hope Mills
I think it is so sweet that you sent a letter asking for toys for your sister and cousin. The elves are busy working on some great toys for them and for you, for being such a great sister and cousin! I will make sure to let the elves know that they need to make your gifts extra special this year!
Is it healthy you being so fat? - Little Bobby, 7, of Raleigh
I prefer to think of myself as "jolly" But yes, I do gain a little weight during the holidays as I visit homes and eat all the yummy cookies that children leave for me. Once the holidays are over, Mrs. Claus and I start eating healthier and exercising to prepare for the next Christmas. So, my weight is under control most of the year. Thanks for worry about me!
I would like to know what can I leave out for the reindeers at night. I would love to feed them while they stop here. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - Lean, 3, of Demorest, Ga.
Thank you for thinking about my reindeer. They love to visit your house. Rudolph was just talking about how much he enjoys the trip! My reindeer love to eat cereal (with milk) and sugar cookies. Just leave out one of those items and I will make sure they get it. Merry Christmas!
I was just wondering since you give everyone a present, what present do you like the best and which one are the elves favorite to make? - Landri, 10, of Sanford
My gift is the joy I see in a child’s face when they open up their presents. I love to make others happy. The only person who gets me an actual gift is Mrs. Claus. She usually gets me some pajamas and a box of chocolates each year. It is our tradition. The elves all like to make different toys. Some like videogames better and others are really fond of making dolls. They each work on toys they love to play with, which is why the gifts are extra special.
When are you going to quit your job? And how can I become the new Santa? - Courtney 10, of Siler City
I really like my job and hope to never quit. I really don’t think of it as work. It is more fun than anything else. Thanks for your interest in my job. It takes lots of patience and kindness to do my job. Start practicing those skills and if I ever do decide to take a break, I just may call you. Thanks for the questions!
How do you make reindeer food? - Blake, 14, of Roanoke Rapids
My reindeer love to eat! They are especially fond of sugar cookies, oatmeal and cereal. Rudolph loves anything with cinnamon. The elves normally make my reindeer a special blend of sugar cookies, cereal and chocolate covered graham crackers for Christmas Eve. All this talk has got me hungry! Thanks for the question.
Hey Santa, what's up? My question is on Christmas Eve, it is about 5 degrees up in the sky with wind gusts of more than 1,000 mph. How do you stand the cold? - Paige, 12, of Wake Forest
It is cold up there, but I am used to the cold. Living in the North Pole helps prepare me and my reindeer for the temperatures. Also, Mrs. Claus makes my reindeer special warm coats to wear on the trip. I usually use a heated blanket and some cocoa to help stay warm. Thanks for the letter!
I have always wanted a rainbow colored unicorn. Do you think it’s possible for a little boy like me to have a unicorn? Would i have to feed it? My horse died yesterday, so all I want is a unicorn. Please make this come true for me this Christmas. - Timothy, 12, of Smithfield
I am sorry to hear about your horse. Unfortunately, I can’t bring you a unicorn. I can’t bring animals on my sleigh because it gets very cold up there. I have also already gotten you some awesome toys for Christmas this year. Since a unicorn is a big responsibility, maybe you could talk to your parents about how much you want one. Maybe they can help you find one or another horse that would be suitable. You are definitely on my Nice List, so expect special gifts this year.
Can you make me have magic powers? - Jessica, 9, of West Viger
Unfortunately, I can’t give you magic powers. You have to be a little older to handle the responsibility that comes with them. Rudolph is still figuring out how to use his powers! Magical powers are pretty cool, but I think some of the gifts that I got for you are better! The elves have been very busy on your order. Hopefully you will be happy on Christmas!
Can you bring me two birds to go in my new bird cage that we just got tonight? - TY’asia, 6, of Enfield
It sounds like you have a lovely bird cage! I am unable, however, to put live animals on my sleigh. IT is just too cold for them. Tell your parents about how much you want the birds and how you plan to help take care of them. Animals can be a lot of responsibility. I know because I raise reindeer. I’ve got some greats gifts for you this year. Thanks for the letter!
How is Rudolph doing? Does Rudolph have a very shiny red nose? I hope you come to visit. - Olivia, 6, of Coats
Rudolph is doing great! He is in training for our Christmas Eve ride. Yes, his nose is very shiny and red. It is so bright, it really does glow! In fact, he can’t play hide and seek with the other reindeer because they always see his nose glowing in the dark! Instead they usually play Guitar Hero. We will be visiting your home soon. Make sure to leave out some cookies and milk!
Do your elves do any other job than making toys? - Melanie, 11, of Durham
Thanks for the question! The elves do a variety of jobs. Some work on the sleigh, while others help Mrs. Claus sew clothes. Others are focused on decorating the workshop and helping to spread Christmas cheer across the North Pole. Some of my elves are interested in cooking, so I set them up with a state-of-the-art kitchen to prepare meals for the reindeer and everyone else. They love it!
How do you keep your beard so long and white? - Chris, 9, of Holly Springs
I have had this beard for a very long time. The key to keeping it healthy is regular trimming, which Mrs. Claus helps me with, and washing it. It is very white because I keep it clean. I always condition it with this special stuff Mrs. Claus bought for me at the mall. It keeps my hair very soft.
Do you get anything for Christmas? - Ella, 7, of Raleigh
Thank you for the question. My gift is the joy I see in a child’s face when they open up their presents. I love to make others happy. The only person who gets me an actual gift is Mrs. Claus. She usually gets me some pajamas and a box of chocolates each year. It is our tradition.
How are you in more places than one? I see Santas everywhere. Do you have some kind of magic? - Steven, 10, of Hope Mills
You figured me out. I do use some magic to get from one place to another so quickly. I taught David Blaine a few magic tricks the other night. I also have a great team of elves and helpers all over the world, who help make sure I stay on schedule for all of my visits to schools, malls, homes and everywhere else. Thanks for the question!
Dearest Santa, I am a mother of a 9-year-old boy who has been very inquisitive about you this year! He most certainly believes, just as I do, the magic of Christmas and also the real meaning of Christmas. But of course, we all love gift getting! I especially love giving gifts this time of year too! My question is: How does a parent explain to a child that Santa cannot always bring you EVERYTHING you ask for? To a child, this can be hard to understand. Any advice? Merry Christmas! - Farrah, 34, of Louisburg
I am glad to hear that you and your son believe so strongly in the Christmas Spirit!
I am a big fan of the Rolling Stones. In fact, the elves are making Mick Jagger’s gift right now. The Stones once sang, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometime, well you just might find, you get what you need.”
Children don’t always understand that gifts are just that - gifts. What really matters is the family that surrounds you during the holidays and the joy you share together. That's what you really need - love.
If telling your son that doesn’t work, I’d just let him know that Santa’s sleigh can only hold so many gifts at a time. It is tough trying to get everything for every child and, even if I could, what would I get them next year?
If that doesn’t work, just play him some Rolling Stones. That’s what I do whenever Rudolph tells me he wants more gifts.
Dear Santa, we lost our house this year, due to my mom losing her job. I hope you can bring me a laptop, clothes, toys and a bike. Tell Mrs. Claus hello and drink lots cocoa and please don’t let the Grinch steal Christmas. - Taylor, 9, of Raleigh
Thank you for writing. I am very sorry to hear about you losing your home and your mom losing her job. I want you to give her a big hug and tell her how much you love and appreciate her. No matter what I bring you this year, the best gift you have is each other. Family is super important. Also, don’t worry about the Grinch stealing Christmas. I have a feeling that he will give it back and get on my Nice List before the holidays. Take care.
Dear Santa, I would like some action figures and an electric scooter. I love you very much and I want to be on the very good list. I saw your green Chuck Taylor's on TV. Pretty cool - my favorites! - Nelson, 10, of Raleigh
Thanks for writing in! I have lots of shoes. I will work on getting you some action figures and an electric scooter. The way to stay on the Nice List is to be good and listen to your parents and teachers.
What makes Santa’s sleigh and reindeer fly? Can you please bring us a real crane truck and choo choo train? We love you. - Fletcher and Gray, 3, of Raleigh
Fletcher and Gray,
Thank you for both writing in! My sleigh and reindeer are able to fly using a little magic and the Christmas Spirit, which lives in every one of you. The more you believe, the higher I can fly. I will get the elves to work on that truck and train right away! Have a Merry Christmas.
Why do you come at night? Please answer my question – you have already answered two from my sister! Thank you Santa. – Erin, 6, of Durham
Thank you and your sister for sending questions! Santa comes at night, because that's when all the children are asleep. I try to be as quiet as I can, so I can put the presents under your tree and not wake you up. I hope your family has a very Merry Christmas!
Do you have a favorite video game? – Melanie, 11, of Durham
Santa has played many video games over the years, but I don't have a favorite. I remember Atari and Super Mario Brothers the most. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas full of fun video games!
Santa, I just wanted to wish you a very Merry Christmas and to say thanks for putting joy and hope in little kids hearts. I appreciate what you have done for everyone, keep it up! – Miranda, 17, of Angier
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope you and your family have the best Christmas ever!
Santa, is it true that you drink alcohol to get your face so red? – Kuan, 17, of Cary
No, Santa just smiles a lot, so it makes my face red. I'm naturally very jolly. I also spend a lot of time outside in the cold, which can also make your face red. Have you ever looked in the mirror after coming inside from sledding or playing in the snow? I bet your face was red, too. Merry Christmas!
Why do people only think about presents when they hear Christmas? Plz tell me this. When I was little, I was exited for Christmas and going to church, and now I can tell a whole story why we celebrate Christmas and not just for presents. – Tracey, 13, of Kansa
I'm so proud of you! You know the true meaning of Christmas. Gifts are wonderful, don't get me wrong, but being with your family is the best present you could ever get. Make sure to tell them how much they mean to you.
Dear Santa, how can I thank you enough for giving me hope and joy all these 40 years of my life?!! Now I see the same hope & joy in my children's eyes, just precious like you! Love, Amy – Amy, 40, of Nashville
Thank you so much for the sweet note. You really made my day! Please tell your children that Mrs. Claus, the reindeer, the elves and I say "Merry Christmas!"
What is your favorite kind of cookie that people put out for you on Christmas Eve? – Emily, 10, of Durham
Santa loves all kinds of cookies. If you're trying to figure out what kind to leave for me, here's what I want you to do. Make your favorite cookies, leave a few for me and then enjoy the rest with your family.
How do you get down the chimney? - Melanie, 11, of Durham
All chimneys are equipped with a special Santa Button. When I arrive on the roof, I hit the button, located in a top secret location, to make the chimney larger so I can squeeze through. If the chimney is still too small, I just go through the front door. And before you ask, I did get stuck once in a chimney. Rudolph had to use some butter to help grease me down the chimney. That’s how we came up with the idea of the Santa Button. All homes with chimneys have Santa Buttons now.
What do you get the reindeer for Christmas? - Trevor, 7, of Cary
It depends on what the reindeer want. They each have very different personalities. Rudolph has asked for an iPad and a Willow Smith CD. Prancer has asked for a dollhouse. Comet loves Spiderman and Ironman, so I will have the elves make him some action figures. Last year, each of the reindeer got custom snow shoes. They don’t like clothes as much as toys though, so I also gave them some video games and toys.
How many elves do you have at your workshop and how do you stay warm flying at night on Christmas Eve? - Isaiah, 8, of Apex
I have hundreds and hundreds of elves working in my shop. They each work in departments - like dolls, trucks, action figures and pet toys. Some elves specialize in video games. There is a waiting list to work in that department! As for how we stay warm on Christmas Eve: The reindeer have these special reindeer coats that Mrs. Claus makes for them each year. I use a heated blanket on the sleigh and drink cocoa. My suit is also pretty warm.
Santa Claus, do you have dogs at the North Pole because I would love to have one. - Morgan, 8, of Clayton
We do have dogs here in the North Pole. I have many pets that I deliver gifts to for the holiday season. We even have a special Pet Section at my shop for elves to work on special dog and cat toys. Unfortunately, it is too cold for me to bring cats or dogs in the sleigh with me on Christmas Eve. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help, but it gets pretty chilly up there in the sky. You have been good this year and your gifts will reflect that.
How old are you? - Parker, 9, of Raleigh
Well, I am about 148 years old, but I don’t look a day over 122, at least that’s what Mrs. Claus tells me. Thanks for the question!
Can you bring me a Thomas Train and my baby brother, Teddy, some toys so he quits playing with mine? - Wilson, 3, Franklinton
I will get your order for a Thomas Train to the elves immediately! I will also work on some toys for Teddy. Until then, it is best to share your toys with your brother. Sharing with him helps make you a great big brother and keeps you on the Nice List. Also, one day he might have some toys you might want to play with. Set a good example for him now and he will likely share with you.
Can you please get me a cell phone? Pretty much everybody has one and I don't. Mom and dad said no. - Emily, 12, of Raleigh
If your parents said no, then I can’t bring you one. I never bring a gift a parent said ‘no’ to. They have to help pay the bill, so they have to make the decision. If you keep being good, one day I am sure you will be able to get a cell phone. But for right now, try to focus on the things you do have and all the great stuff I am bringing you this year. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help. Hang in there. I don’t allow the reindeer to have cell phones either. Rudolph would go over his minutes in a day. He is a real talker.
My friends don’t believe in Rudolph and I do. Is he really real? - Adam, 7, of Willow Spring
How does Rudolph fly and how does he get warm when it’s snowing? - Braxton, 4, of Cary
Since these questions are for Rudolph, I sent them to him. - Santa
Adam and Braxton,
What great questions! First of all, Adam, I am real. I like to watch TV, mainly the Disney Channel, and listen to music. Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” is currently my favorite song.
Us reindeer are able to fly on Christmas because we are fueled by the “Christmas Spirit,” which can be found in everyone. We also maintain a healthy diet, which helps us stay lean and strong to pull Santa around. It does get cold up there, but we are equipped with warm coats for the trip. Mrs. Claus usually makes us new coats each year. Thanks for the letters!
I know this may sound a little bit out of nature, but all I want to have is my mother ring a bell on Christmas Day to let me know she loves me. My mother is not here. It’s been six years and my heart still hurts so. I know she's in a better place. I just want a small chime to ring so I know she's still with me . Thanks Santa, I know this will be a hard one for you I still believe in you. - ET, 45, of Raleigh
I am so sorry for your pain. It hurts me when I see people sad, that is why I devote my life to bringing such joy to people. This is a tough request because sometimes signs from those we love don’t come in ringing bells. Sometimes those we love and lost send us subtle hints each day that things are OK. Whether it be a blooming flower or the sunshine you see in your daughter’s eyes, the ones you love are with you always. When you feel weak, know that the signs are all around you, comforting you and bringing you warmth.
Are you fake cause everyone says you are? - Bob Jerry, 7, of Raleigh
I can assure you that I am very much real. People say I’m not real sometimes. It doesn’t upset me too much anymore. As long as you think I’m real, that’s all that matters to me! As long as the children around the world believe, I am happy.
I have two questions. First, what is your first stop on Christmas Eve? Next, about how many toys do your elves make each day? - Davis, 9, of Fuquay-Varina
On Christmas Eve, I normally stop by a local gas station to grab a cup of hot cocoa. It is important to stay warm. While I am there, I deliver toys to those people who are stuck working for the holidays. My elves make anywhere from 500 to 1,000 toys per day. I have a lot of elves and they are quite skilled. Sometimes we make less toys because the toys are bigger. Bikes and scooters take a little longer to make. Thanks for the questions!
How do you see me when I’m awake? I saw you at the parade. I don’t know why, but I love you. Will you bring me a dollhouse I can fit in? - Jadah, 4, of Chapel Hill
Thank you for the kind words. I love you too! I have little elves who help me keep track of everyone. Sometimes, I enlist the help of parents and teachers - that’s why it is extra important to be nice to them. As for the dollhouse, I will do my best. If my elves aren’t able to make one in time for Christmas this year, I will deliver the other presents we have already made for you.
My Mom said that I might not get presents this year because I have not been listening to my teacher. What do you say? - Seth, 8, of Franklinton
Your mom is right. I looked up your name on my list and you are leaning a little to the naughty side. You need to start listening to your teacher and being good. There is still time to jump back onto the Nice list. I know you can do it!
Is it going to snow on Dec. 16 and Christmas?! - Austin, 34, of Wilson
I am not sure. I leave all the weather forecasting to my good friend Greg Fishel. I always watch his forecasts very closely this time of year, so I can plan my Christmas Eve route across the world. Have no fear, the reindeer and I can fly in snow. Thanks for the question.
Did you come to Overhills Elementary this week? I think I saw you. - Chloe, 7, of Anderson Creek
You caught me! This week, I have been visiting many schools in the Triangle in order to update my Naughty and Nice lists. I saw you too! Remember to keep studying and listening to your parents, so you can stay on that Nice list.
What will I get for Christmas? – Kylie, 7, of Fayetteville
You're getting ... hey, wait! Santa can't tell. I don't want to ruin the surprise! You're such a clever girl :) Let me tell you this, though, I think you will have a wonderful Christmas full of fun gifts.
Will you be able to find my husband a small interior job before Christmas so that we may have a very small but cheerful Christmas? I am a giving person but am at my very depressive wits end with Christmas and no funds! – Mary, 53, of Hope Mills
I'm sending best wishes your way for your husband to find a great job that he loves. In the mean time, just cherish each other and the time you have together. After all, Christmas is about more than just gifts. It's about the family and friends we adore. Mrs. Claus and I will be thinking about you.
Is it true that you can eat a Big Mac in one bite? – Matt, 17, of Cary
Santa loves to eat, but I try to take small bites. Eating a whole Big Mac in one bite would be really tough, but I bet the reindeer could do it. You're making me hungry :) Merry Christmas to you!
Santa, I know I'm not young like the others who send you their letters, but I still consider myself a believer. All I want for Christmas this year is joy to all in my family, for I have seen so much suffering this year due to hard times. Even I have suffered so much this year. I would like this Christmas to be one to remember! – Danielle, 22, of Raleigh
My dear Danielle, I'm so sorry that you and your family are going through tough times this year. I think it's very sweet that all you want for Christmas is joy for your family. I can tell that you care about them a lot. Maybe you should write them a letter and explain how much they mean to you. Cherish every second you have with them. Mrs. Claus and I are sending best wishes your way for an extra special Merry Christmas.
Dear Santa, me, my Dad, Mom & my 2 sisters, Courtney & Khloe are going to spend Christmas at grandma's house because she is to old to be driving in the dark & we want to be with her on Christmas Eve so she can wake up with us & see the presents you brought. I have been good most of the time. Will you please come & see us at grandma's house? She lives in Vass, NC. – Austin, 8, of Hope Mills
Santa is so glad that you'll be spending time with your grandma on Christmas! Family is the true gift of the holiday. Make sure to tell them how much you love them. I will definitely come visit you in Vass. I hope you love all your presents. Tell your grandma that Mrs. Claus and I said hi!
Can I get a Wii for xmas? – Jim, 8, of Raleigh
That sounds like a really fun gift! Let me check with the elves and see if they can make one for you. In the mean time, let your family know about your Christmas wish. I hope you have a wonderful, fun-filled holiday!
Dear Santa, I have a question for Mrs. Claus. What is her favorite color? Mine is pink. Love, Anna – Anna, 9, of Willow Spring
Thank you for asking Mrs. Claus a question! Let me go check and see what her favorite color is ... OK, I'm back. Mrs. Claus says she loves pink, just like you do. But her favorite color is red, because that's the color Santa wears :) We both hope you have a very Merry Christmas.
Dear Santa, my name is Shyanne and I am 7 yrs old from Louisburg, NC and I'm looking forward to baking cookies with my Mom so we can leave them for you on Christmas Eve, like we do every year. Please tell Mrs. Claus my family says Hi. I have been a pretty good girl this year, at least I think so, and I was wondering if you would please bring me a ipod touch or a mp3 player that is shaped like a ipod touch. Thank you so much for making all of my Christmas wonderful. – Shyanne, 7, of Louisburg
You are so sweet! I'm looking forward to eating your delicious cookies again this year. Santa is so happy that you're spending quality time with your mom. Just remember, family is the true gift of Christmas. As for the iPod Touch and MP3 Player, let me check with the elves and see what we can do. I hope you love all your presents this year! By the way, Mrs. Claus says "hi" back to your family. You made her day!
Will you pet our kitties when you come to bring us our gifts? – Amelia, 5, of Willow Spring
Absolutely! I love animals and always make sure to give them a little pet when I deliver presents. Cats, especially, love to hang around the Christmas tree, so I get to see a lot of them at Christmastime. I hope you like your presents this year. Merry Christmas!
Hi Santa, if you don't mind me asking am I on the nice list????? P.S. Have a safe flight. – Caroline, 11, of Durham
You are such a sweet girl. Thank you for wishing me a safe flight. You are definitely on my nice list. To be sure, how about you write a list of some of the nice things you've done this year and give it to your family?
Do you like chocolate milk with chocolate chip cookies? – Auviair, 1, of Rocky Mount
Yes, that sounds wonderful! You're making Santa very hungry!
Which is your favorite cookies, chocolate chip or oatmeal? – Ava, 5, of Rocky Mount
Santa loves all kinds of cookies. If you're trying to figure out what kind to leave for me, here's what I want you to do. Make your favorite cookies, leave a few for me and then enjoy the rest with your family.
What do you, the elves & Mrs. Claus do during the summer? – Stacey, 8, of Rocky Mount
Since we work so hard at Christmas, we all take the summer off and relax. We also love to read fan mail from children across the world.
Am I on the nice list? – Blake, 14, of Roanoke Rapids
You are definitely on my nice list. To be sure, how about you write a list of some of the nice things you've done this year and give it to your family?
How are you in more places then one? I see Santa's everywhere. Do you have some kind of magic??? – Steven, 10, of Hope Mills
Santa has a lot of helpers around the world. My helpers, elves and even your parents keep an eye on the children all over the world. You never know if you see the real me or a helper, so you should always try to be on your best behavior.
Do your reindeer fly up in the clouds? – Caleb, 4, of Willow Spring
The sleigh flies very, very high and very, very fast – faster even than a rocket ship! Christmas spirit is the fuel that makes the sleigh go. Every time you are kind to someone, every time you give a gift or sing a Christmas carol, you help me complete my trip!
I have 5 kids – 3 boys and 2 girls. I try my best to get everything they want for Christmas, and I can only get the more important things that they need. My family and I are struggling through so much, and I feel bad for the things I can not get them. What do I do? – Loni, 28, of Spring Lake
Me and my family has been going through a rough 3 years with the passing of my dad to cancer and not knowing what is going to happen from one day to the next, been trying to help my little sister get gifts for her children so they would have some things to open up on Christmas day. I feel depressed all the time, because I know I don't have a lot of money to get the things they want and deserve. What should I do? – Bobbie Jo, 29, of Spring Lake
Dear Loni and Bobbie Jo,
I am so pleased that you want to give gifts! Big girls like you know that Christmas is about more than just toys and presents. The best gift is love – love for the little ones, love for your sisters and brothers, love for your parents and even love for a stranger. You can share the Christmas spirit in a meal, a hug or even a homemade card. A gift like that is one that does not cost a lot of money, but will be more memorable than any "thing."
Do you really make wooden toys like they say in the movies? I don't believe it because I get plastic toys. Answer me please! – Kelsey, 10, of Henderson
My elves make all kinds of toys – wooden, plastic, even electronic ones. The elves check out the stores during the year and see what kinds of things kids like. They even visit the mall with me (maybe you have seen them there). Then, in the workshop, they add that special Christmas magic. I hope that answers your question.
Santa, how old are you? – Reagan, 6, of Angier
I am older than your mom, even older than your grandmom. I am so old I have forgotten how old I am! I know that I like to be around young people and elves most of all. That makes me feel young! Ask your grandparents and they will tell you memories of Santa from when they were young like you.
Why don't kids get what they want for Xmas? What is Xmas all about because I never get what I want because we don't have much money and my mom says Santa don't make much toys for older kids like me. I thought Christmas was about getting what you want. – Griselda, 12, of Cary
Sometimes it can seem like Christmas is all about toys and gifts and getting, but that is not true. Your mom can tell you Christmas is really about GIVING! Sometimes the best gift is one that does not cost any money. You are old enough to think about not just what you want, but what you can give to others. Can you help your mom around the house? That is a GIFT! Can you take care of a younger child? That is a GIFT! When you give someone else a gift, I can see what a good girl you are, and it will make you feel good inside too. That is what Christmas is all about.
I've been pretty good all year, so I was wondering if I've been good enough to get a Unicorn for Christmas. I've wanted one for a long time, but haven't asked for one yet, for fear of being too naughty. I know taking care of a unicorn would be a big responsibility, and I'm ready for it! I understand that they eat rainbows (see, I've done my research) and on sunny days I will make rainbows with a garden hose and catch them in a jar to save for rainy days (I don't want my unicorn to starve when it isn't sunny)! Thanks a bunch for reading this, and thank you even more if I see a unicorn under the tree on Christmas morning! – Erin, 14, of Raleigh
You have been especially good this year. Way to go! I am very proud of you. But I have to bring you something else. Many good children ask for a pet or an animal, but it is simply too cold in the sleigh for them to ride. The sleigh travels very fast and very high in order to get all the way around the world on Christmas Eve, and it is very cold.
Hi Santa! I was just curious, do you and your elves have the sleigh in good shape for your big trip next weekend? – Madyson, 9, of Lillington
The elves just put a fresh coat of paint on the sleigh! As you know, it is powered by Christmas spirit, so be sure to sing as many carols as you can and spread good cheer. Your behavior can help me make the trip on Christmas Eve. Thanks!
What are the names of your elves? – Sammy, 6, of Willow Spring
Hundreds and hundreds of elves work at the North Pole. My workshop is just like your school – different elves work in different rooms on different toys. Some elves take care of the reindeer, other build toys and others decorate the North Pole. Still others keep an eye on kids like you to see who is naughty and who is nice.
I know I'm not a kid, far from it, but I sure would like some feet that didn't hurt. I think I have been fairly good considering I can't get around too good. – Susan, 62, of Goldsboro
You still seem like a kid to me! I am sorry to hear your feet hurt. Aches and pains are not really something that Santa can fix, but I guarantee that spreading Christmas cheer will make you feel good inside and out. I recommend you put up your feet, sip some cocoa and write a letter to someone you love. I know that reading letters from all the good boys and girls always makes me feel better after a busy day. Merry Christmas!
How come your elf on the shelf Kappy does not move every night? Will you be visiting my house & my sisters soon? I can't wait to see the surprises you have for me!! – Eliza, 7, of Bahama
Every elf does his or her job a little bit differently. Some check in at the North Pole ev
