Coats for the Children 2008 header

As the winter season approaches, WRAL-TV is mobilizing to help provide coats to Salvation Army families in need.

Since 1989, WRAL has collected more than 114,000 coats and raised $1,068,000 to provide winter clothing for Salvation Army families in need.

WRAL thanks its community sponsors at Jiffy Lube and Capital Bank for their support of this project.

Jiffy Lube Capital Bank

Donate new or gently used coats at any of the participating Jiffy Lube or Capital Bank locations in Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Clayton, Durham, Fayetteville, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Goldsboro, Morrisville, Oxford, Parkton, Pittsboro, Raleigh, Sanford, Siler City, Spring Lake, Wilson, Wake Forest and Zebulon.

In addition to clean coats, WRAL is asking the public to donate other winter clothing items, including gently used gloves and hats and new underwear, T-shirts and socks to completely outfit a child for the winter months. Any size coat will be accepted; however, larger sizes for teens and adults and infant sizes are in particular demand.

On Friday, Dec.11, WRAL will hold day-long "Coats For The Children Telethon."

Call 877-543-2628 anytime between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. to make a credit card donation. You may also donate any time on WRAL.com. See the 'Donate Coats or Cash' section, below, for how to make an online contribution.

Donors will be eligible for thank-you prizes throughout the day, based on the time of their call and their pledge amount.

Every person calling in with a Coats donation will receive a Jiffy Lube coupon book valued at $150! This Jiffy Lube thank you gift is part of their 20th year supporting WRAL’s Coats for the Children campaign.

Starting at 6 a.m., the first 25 callers to make a $150 credit card pledge will receive a family 4-pack to see the hit kids show "Princess Katie & Racer Steve," at the Durham Performing Arts Center, Saturday, Feb. 6, at 11:30 a.m. or 3:30 p.m.

At 9 a.m., the first five callers to make a $100 credit card pledge will receive a $25 Food Lion gift card.
