American Idol

Siobhan wows 'Idol' crowd

Siobhan Magnus is odd. There is no way around her oddness, but the girl can sing!

Magnus wowed viewers last night on "American Idol" with her rendition of the Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black." Although, I do think the scream lasted a little too long!

Here are my picks for the best and worst from last night when the contestants tackled songs from the Rolling Stones:

Best

Siobhan Magnus - One of the few performances I will remember from last night.

Michael Lynche - He always makes me smile. Loved his voice last night on "Miss You."

In the middle

Didi Benami - "Play with Fire" was actually a good choice for her voice.

Katie Stevens - She rebounded from weeks of criticism with "Wild Horses."

Paige Miles - She battled through "Honky Tonk Woman" despite having laryngitis this week. We finally got to hear her amazing voice. She needs to pick and even bigger song next week.

Lee Dewyze - He played it safe this week with "Beast Of Burden." It was a very singer-songwriter style. I'd like to see him rock out a bit more. It is starting to be the same thing each week, change it up a bit.

Casey James - His performance of "It's All Over Now" was bluesy and fun, but not vocally his best. His voice isn't as strong as the other contestants. He is going to have a great career in the country/blues genre, but I don't think he can win 'Idol.'

Crystal Bowersox - She had an OK version of "You Can't Always Get What You Want," but really needs to step it up. Her performance was just a little too "street performer" for me.

Worst

Andrew Garcia - At one time I thought he could win this competition, now I think he may be in danger of going home. He just hasn't been able to capture the same magic he had in earlier weeks.

Aaron Kelly - The judges loved it, but I was not a big fan of his version of "Angie." It just didn't work.

Lacey Brown - Loved her hair, hated her performance of "Ruby Tuesday."

Tim Urban - I was in shock when I heard his reggae version of "Under My Thumb." Didn't this guy listen to the lyrics? It is a dark song. I almost have no words to describe how bad this was!

Who is going home this week?

Not even Vote for the Worst's support can save Tim Urban this week. I think he is headed home.

Siobhan has talent - no doubt about it. But when did screaming = talent? Never - oh wait, they declared that their pet last year was talented because he knew how to use eyeliner and could scream. Crystal is good but the brooding street performer act is tiresome week after week. Not a good year for AI, sadly. The stand-outs are already standing-out. Doubtful there will be any surprises this year unless Vote For The Worst has their way.

Her scream reminded me of Danny Gokey's "Dream On" scream last season.

You are pretty much on track with what I thought although I'd call Tim's rendition more Calypso than Reggae. If he had transitions to full-tilt Reggae it probably would have worked. I thought Aaron's Angie was awful. The worst, though, is Kara. I am sooooo tired of her trying to interpret the song for the contestants. We found ourselves after each song joking "didn't you understand? It's about HORSES!" Or, "It is about somebody named ANGIE!" or "I just don't think you felt the THUMB. You have to imagine being UNDER a thumb!" Yeah, yeah, she's a songwriter. She's not a judge though. Ellen has been a pleasant surprise.

I don't usually watch Idol, but I happened to catch "mama sox" and this girl is FAR and ABOVE everyone else on this show....her talent is real....

How many times is Siobhan gonna scream like that!?!? The first time it was awesome, this time it was soooo offkey.

Crystal Bowersox - She had an OK version of "You Can't Always Get What You Want," but really needs to step it up. Her performance was just a little too "street performer" for me.

wow ... clearly you would not talent if it jumped up and bit ya!

even on a off night ... she was the best ... and while Siobhan's performance was on the dramatic side ... the screaming was way over the top and seemed a bit desperate to me... but I will agree it was a stand out performance.

"mama sox" has something that all the other idols do not have ... and that is natural talent ... she don't need all the theatrics to make her stand out ... she just stands out because she is a great artist.

Big Mike ... love ya dude ... but please ... please ... don't dance!
